Wife likes that.

Yes I did try GS in Belco (I edited my original post to include this while you were typing) - no EDs there. And the GTI prices they were quoting were on par with Lennocks (ie RRP prices for driveaway, so no onroads or tax etc).
Bit disappointed really, looking at what some other people have paid for both ED and standard GTI
Sorry, to clarify GE = ED (Golf Edition 35). May have got the lingo wrong!
Can anybody give me any negotiation tips? Not sure what to haggle on?

This works out to be around the same price of $46700 for the black from Essendon VW as it is extra to get it in a colour other than white.

Not sure what to do, at $46 - even $47-$48K I would take it.
No other dealers (Melbourne or otherwise) can take the car off Lennock as it has been registered already... so I can't even call another to pinch it off them.
Thanks for that.
EDIT: Also just curious, what did you end up getting (and why you knocked back the ED35 @ $46K)?Last edited by javab0y; 30-01-2012, 09:27 AM.Golf GTI ED 35: DSG, Candy White, Tinting, RNS510 retrofit

So I thought better to wait.
I have been looking at carsales for GTIs and Rs (second hand, about a year old with no more than 15000kms) and it seems that it is quite difficult for these guys to sell their cars as some have been trying for 2 months and keep reducing the price without success. If you look at the classified section on this forum you will see what I mean. Why am I saying this? Not because I will be selling whatever car I buy in about a year, but rather the fact that I think it is better to purchase one that is about a year old for much much cheaper than RRP if you are not in a hurry.
My first preference is a stock GTI with dsg but if you look, you will find a few Rs (albeit manual) for around $45k before negotiating.
Buying a new GTI ED35 for $46k or a second hand R (manual with around 5000-10000kms which is practically brand new in my books) for let's say $43k after negotiating, I would go with the R. But I am not in a rush and would hope for a desperate R seller who has a white DSG with hopefully some extras, but that would be the cream on top of the cake.
Bottom line is, if you are not in a rush, then wait. Do your research, keep an eye on whats available in the market. Who knows, I might even end up getting a second hand ED35 towards the end of the year which is a better time for me. And that, I would be very happy with.

Thanks hadrami.
Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the ED 35 today! They came down to $48,500 in the end & threw in iPod cable, full tank & front tints. Not as good as yours at $46K but I am happy.
To be honest, I tried calling Sydney (VW Barlo Mascot) and another dealer in Queensland but neither could come down near $48,500 let alone $46K! That made me feel a bit better about it in the end... well that's what I am telling my self anyway!
Should get it in the next day or so.Golf GTI ED 35: DSG, Candy White, Tinting, RNS510 retrofit

Lennock as they were the only ones that had it stock.
Tried Gerald Slaven but they could not get one off anyone nor did they have one in stock.

Very impressed with the car, goes very well! (to put it mildly) - picked up yesterday.
Was happy with the Lennock experience (in the end) too.
I want to swap the RCD510 unit for a Nav one, I was quoted around $3500 (estimate) for this? Any idea how much I can sell the current one for and where? Will do it if the "changeover" is a bit better than $3500.
Also thinking of getting park sensors as well - estimated at around $800 - thoughts?Golf GTI ED 35: DSG, Candy White, Tinting, RNS510 retrofit

U can get around $300-350 for the rcd, a rns on eBay is about $1k.
Rear ops is about $350 from eBay and install with integration into the rns can be done with Derek at ea. What was quoted for $800?
