Hard earned cash from saving many years... ¬¬ its just i was undecided... but after the dealership with VW i think its the EVO X they upped the price by 1500 GBP more and then I said no and they decided to do a discount of 1000GBP but I had to sign the deal there and then... I was pressured and told them I couldn't do the deal and was gonna go .. so then they started saying will discount that extra 500 more but had to sign before I left I again said I couldn't and sorry they then agreed for me to think about it and they will extend it till monday... basically they were playing around with me... , to add further ... they had one white which was to be sold and was basic and they couldn't let me test drive it..........

      LMAO. Call of the day.

Honestly, no offense to the OP, but are you an idiot or really that unsure?

The R is the R. The EVO is the EVO. Different cars. Which one do you like?

Coming on here in the MK VI forum and saying that the resale of the R is not going to be as good as the R32 because the R looks so plain.. Is ordinary form to say the least.

Get your hand off it is all I can say and recommend that you buy the EVO. Japanese cars like the EVO have excellent performance.

But if you "werent impressed" by the EVO VIII and you are trying to make out like you want a Golf R - it doesnt make sense.

The EVO/STI are production spec rally cars. The R is a production spec luxury car with enough poke for fun.

Other than outright speed, the R to me is the better car in every way.

But I still think you would enjoy an EVO more..

And as for "almost" buying an Evo and then settling got a 1.4ltr "Honda Civic!?"..

Dude, you have to ask if you were actually ever going to buy an EVO.. thats just 2 different cars there.. nice car vs **** box

The New Evo is more upmarket than the previous ones by a long shot ... yes the golf r is nice interior wise but it doesnt really scream the price they were asking... the Evo 7 FQ320 did impress me it was the 260bhp version of the 8th generation that didnt do it for me :\ anyways I will be going for Evo X since the way the dealer has treated me is important and I feel that the VW wasnt treating me correctly... I know I will have fun in the EVO and if the time comes the mitsu dealer has also made me an offer that I will get a better trade in if I dont like the car and would like a Land Rover Evoque in the coming future to further add the mitsu dealer is mates with my farther so its kinda like a bonus I really did like the R but the price and the way I was treated put me off.

Rexman, it's not the OP who is considering the Evo. And if you bothered to read the whole thread, he decided on the R. It's dj_xmx who is looking at the Evo.

This is kinda like asking someone should I buy a hotdog or a pie for lunch. What I like might not be what you like. I personally chose the R for the fact that I can have an all rounder. It is a good balance of everything I'm after. Didn't want pure performance that has harsh ride 100% of the time. I don't always want to fee likel I'm on the race track. The R has that sleeper appeal to it as well. Not really into that "look at me" scene. At the end of the day it is a personal choice that the individual can only make the choice. If someone asks me about "x" car and they buy it, then hate it, is it then my fault?

Agreed but I couldnt test drive the R even though there was a white one available... seemed to expensive at the end atleast here in Europe and the dealer didnt treat me well, at the end i have gone with the Evo X but to be fair I still love the R aswell , if I could Id have both !! seen pics of cars in this forum and love them same as I love evo X at the end of the day it came to budget, dealer and personal choice I do agree the golf R is the better all rounder but not for the money they were asking.

That's great that you have made your choice. It's the choosing that is always the first hurdle. Because it's your hard earned money you want to be sure it's the right choice. You have summed up your reasons for which one to buy and at the end of the day it is you that needs to be happy with it. So congrats and hope you have many hours of fun driving.

Your right QIK-R, at 5am I could not be bothered to read the whole thread. Like Dave Chappelle once said, "sorry!".

And like I said and a few more have echoed.. it is the mans choice. And probably should not wait on his forum results to make up his mind.

Exactly why I chose the R also. And love it.
                    Why a Golf R?

Ditto. Nothing compares with GTI/R. Japanese cars dont even come close. Not even my Cooper S which is Bye Bye in 3 months.

                        Me too. Best balance around.

But if I was in the UK/Europe I'd get an S3. Much better value for money.

Uk and Europe are different specs... the S3 over here was 37 and basic... (gibraltar) by the time I add the same options as the R the price went through the roof... an example I can also use is the S4 my dream car in uk starting 37 or 38K GBP here it starts at 49K GBP.... I still love the R dont get me wrong I just cant bring my self to pay that much for a Golf its just wrong :\
