I followed a VE SS ute through a tight twisty back road today and after seeing how easy it was for me to stay with him I thought of this thread.

He had a loud exhaust so I could clearly hear how much he was giving it, and judging by the amount of lean how hard he was trying. I never really needed more than 5/10ths to stay with him, and it really surprised me just how much I take the Golf's abilities for granted.

5/10ths? On a 270KW SS, really..? I dont think that is possible tbh - no offense mate but both cars going 10/10ths and you might win. Unless your talking just about going through some twisties, then yeah you'll get him - but not at 5/10ths..

Just my opinion ofcourse and welcome others thoughts.

            Time for choosing has arrived....

            Guys,

Tomorrow at lunch I will be choosing either the Golf R (Europe Version - since am in Gibraltar) or the Mitsubishi Evolution X MR... the golf R 5 door DSG is at 38,000GBP with leather/nav/sports seat with electric adjustment/ACC/parking sensors and the mitsubishi evo x mr is at 35,500GBP... Golf R will have to be built and dealer says it will take upto 5 months waiting time if I order, the mitsubishi will be here in 10 days... I still dont know which one to choose .. the golf r seems so expensive and doesnt look as sporty as it is.. I need some help in deciding... maybe I shouldnt have asked in a VW forum haha and yes I tried to get a test drive of both but unfortunately none was available... Is the EVO X faster than the Golf R ? :S

              No test drives available?

              Have you tried other dealerships?

i don't understand how they could not let you test drive a car you want to buy - you wouldn't buy clothes without making sure they fit right?

both are great cars, you need to decide for yourself.

(I'd go with the golf, unless I have to actually drive a rally everyday)

i wonder stock and stock on a drag which would really win.. according to specs the Golf R is suppose to be faster to 100... :S but in both forums in this one and evoxforum they start the evo is faster...

Any tests done in any publications here the Evo has beaten the R to 100 and the 400m.

The Evo just doesn't look as classy though.

Are you sure you can't get an R sooner? Sometimes the dealer can look at cars already in build progress that is unallocated (or allocated as a demo / showroom car) and you can get hold of it sooner.

Can't you buy one from the UK and drive it back to Gibraltar? It'd be a great way to run-in the car!

The Evo Looks damn aggressive something this current R is missing in my opinion :\ and no the dealer cant get anything sooner :\ due to the options I have choosen.. I thought about going to the UK and getting one but the import rate for cars is done in such a way to prevent sales loss to the smaller companies in Gibraltar

                                The answer is simple!
Fly to London ( or closer metro centre on the mainland) and test drive the frackers.
It doesn't matter if the specs are different they're going to drive the same.
Then go home and order the one you decide on.
Honestly, air fares are so cheap these days.
What's it going to cost, couple hundred quid?
                                Think outside the box.

If it was my 38,000 Gbp. I wouldn't be relying on advice from guys on a forum on the other side of the world.

                                Good luck.

                                (said in good humor).
