Then go home and order the one you decide on.
Honestly, air fares are so cheap these days.
What's it going to cost, couple hundred quid?
    Think outside the box.

If it was my 38,000 Gbp. I wouldn't be relying on advice from guys on a forum on the other side of the world.

    Good luck.

The Evo X is a more "raw" car all round. It is faster than the Golf R and handles better but the quality of the VW is miles ahead.

Just compare in interior quality (plastics in particular) for instance.

I looked at both the Evo and the STI when I was looking for a new car but quickly dismissed them both as being too "boy racer" for my liking and chose the more sophisticated option.

I know the X must be more Raw but by how much.. I have heard the Golf R is firm too.. in ride, i agree in plastics but in choosing the more sophisticated option it also means the more expensive one too... and it doesnt stand out for 38,000GBP

There are fairly fundamental differences between these two cars, and to be honest I don't think there's too much overlap in their philosophies, but that's just my personal opinion.

If you want a car that's ultimately faster (on track, off road, through the twisties, even in a straight line), whose purpose is to go fast, and to feel fast (and hence be a whole lot of fun at times), at the expense of most-all else, then the EVO is for you. For your 35k you are buying 30,000 pounds of engine/driveline, and 5,000GBP of all the rest that makes up a registerable car.

If you want a car that's genuinely rapid, quiet and comfortable, well built and a nicer place to be day-to-day, that doesn't scream "look at me" and does sacrifice some outright speed in the name of being a car you'd be happy to live with, then the Golf R is for you. Think of it as much more of a grand tourer than a track car.

In terms of the raw performance numbers, they are very close. Close enough that it should not be a factor in your decision. The way they drive reflects their different approaches to performance motoring. Choose which best reflects your needs.

Does resale value come into play?

Yes Resale value does come into play aswell... the problem i would think would be that for 38K when if comes to sell its just a golf to most people , they don't see that its an R unlike the R32 which was most distinct and had a better vocal exhuast note, this R is more subtle and doest not attract attention, its partly what upsets me is that for that money most people wouldnt know what car you have and it you would get a good resale on it ... thats my opinion based on my market here. and the wait for 6 months.. all summer without a car ... :\

It seems to me that you want a car that has an aggressive look and stands out from the crowd. If internal fit and refinement is not a major consideration (as it was to me) you only have to wait 10 days to drive the car that best suits that purpose.

OMG... if it happened to me I would seriously go mental... just the thought of 6 months makes me sweat.. :\ today shall be the choice ... Will let you guys know what happens take in consideration I will be paying the car in cash upfront which ever I choose, i dont know how you guys financed ur Rs over there but this is my prefered way .. i rather have no commitment to paying a bank monthly fees

Does the acceleration of the R push you into the seat? or it doesnt have that rush? if not what about with APR re-flash stage 1?

R Acceleration - it is going to depend on what you are used to and what car you are coming from. I came from a family wagon Honda CR-V so the acceleration is fantastic and gives me a thrill every time I plant my foot down.

yes after flash.. you're pushed back on the leather, front end lifts as you punch down, DSG goes through the gears with little effort as much noise is left behind while sending the now familiar gear pop through the cabin.. a very beautiful thang in Black.

I come from a Honda Legend 3.5 V6 2007 AWD, I have driven an FQ320 EVO 7 and a normal 260HP Evo 8 wasnt impressed with the lower power 8 , and the 7 did impress me the way that thing just shoved me in the seat was impressive... I was too young at the time only 21yrs of age and decided buying such a car would have me killed so I stuck to my 1999 Hatchback Civic VTi 1.6 160HP until much later I got the Honda Legend since I wanted something more luxary... but I got bored with it really LOL! and always wanted something inbetween.. my dream car would be an s4 .. I cant afford that so I came to the Golf R and the Evo X.

Update... did a FB poll and Evo X has 24 votes Golf R has 11... VW dealer called and has said due to currency flux the price has gone up ... and to go over to review quote.. seems the EVO is wining... few more hours to go does it matter if am 5ft 4 haha in choosing cars ?
