I wouldn't drive down to Albury from Sydney but I did drive up to Gosford for my first service. The invoice was for $377.

I've moved this to the MKV forum (a MKV regular mod, feel free to merge with another appropriate thread, as I'm sure there are already numerous here).

Service costs are not only individual to the model (Golf, Tiguan, Passat etc), but also do the sub-models, engines, gearboxes (TDI, GTI, manual, DSG etc). The costs are also different from dealer to dealer, so....

To me, $293 sounds unreal for a 15,000 1 year service. If you're worried about that increasing to $350, then you're lucky. Cause the dealer servicing in my area is already more expensive than $350 for a typical model after 1 year!

Isn't the OP's car a MkVI? I did forget to mention that mine is a MkVI GTI.

I agree that sub $300-350 is a good price for a dealer service

Oh yes... sorry, missed that the first time around (was a good NASCAR race, lol). Moved to MK6 and merged with one of the many existing servicing threads.

South Yarra vw just charged me $600 for an oil and air filter change on my r32, so 350 sounds pretty good.
They also made me pay $350 in labour for my faulty mechatronic unit, as its 2 months out of warranty.
Worst part is they made me drive a beetle as my loan car :S

Yep the car was always serviced with them on time, and it had only done 39000kms.
So yeah what can i say, they are pricks. They didnt even offer to get vw to pay for it, i had to make them request it.
I asked them to check out a a noise i was getting in the power steering too, now they tell me I need a whole new steering rack. So I imagine itll be the same deal

a steering rack wont be cheap! cant be already gone after only 39K on the odometer though can it..?

i've had a friend of mine had his changed on a Renault Megane after 110K on the odometer and he really drove the car to its extremes 80% of the time.

The steering seems fine, it was just the noise that concerned me.. but apparently it has a major fault?
They said they will need it for 3 days to do it all, and it will need a full front end alignment.
Then to top things off the ticking noise from my dash it apparently a faulty "ecu relay" which is $110.
Really seems like vw is trying to bleed me dry atm.

If you have to pay I would be getting a second opinion from a independant VW specialist before doing anything

Thanks klink, that is sound advice.
Luckily they have agreed to cover the total costs of the steering rack.
Although once all of this work is done with, I wont be using VW dealers any longer.
Volkspower is fairly close to my work, so I guess it will be them.
