My car is coming up for its first service and called up Barloworld for booking and was advised of $435 with no loan car. I called up Paul Wakeling in Campbeltown out of curiosity(its near my work) and was quoted $280.
Is Paul Wakeling recommended or should i go to Barloworld, any major difference between these two.
THat service is only oil and filter ??
if so Camden GTI will do it and if will only cost you $220 + GST =$240 and he's a fully trained VW mechanic .

$435 is absolute BS. My first service cost me about $180. How many kms have you done?

Wakeling always did a reasonable job for the 3 services I had done there. Get the $280 quote in writing as their verbal quotes always differed from the invoice presented & then you'll have to argue with them.
If you work nearby, they have a courtesy bus to drop you off.
edit: I can understand you wanting to get the work done at the dealers for the first few services but by 60,000/4 years you'll want to use Camden GTI as Wakelings will try & progressively strip more from your wallet at each service just to see what you can put up with before you snap - the 60/4 will be near $1000.
See if wakelings can join you or your partner/spouse/whatever in the Women On Wheels club & you get a further discount (and free car washes if you like swirly paintwork).
I know matt from camden gti does provide hire cars but depends on how busy he is /availability. Go out to him check out his spanking new workshop and get the work done for a decent price!
the castrol slx oil itself is already around $100.Wakelings use Valvoline SynPower XL-III 5w-30 504.00/507.00. Depending on who is serving at Wakelings, they will charge anywhere from $72 - $90 (their pricing is absolutely bizarre & inconsistent
+ loan car Don't know. never needed one for a service
+ oil filter ~$18-$25 depending on who serves you
+ labour ($100/hr?) $110 IIRC
+ consumptions Consumables?? ~$15
+ car wash n vacuum they run it through a car wash. It doesn't get dried & the wheels will still be dirty - avoid unless you like swirl marks in your paint. I could have had a free wash every week & only ever had 1.
+ dealer stampI don't believe they charge for this. But now you've said it, I'm sure they'll try & charge for it soon
non dealers can do $150-$200 without the castrol slx but other vw approved oil + oem filter, but no extras as above.
Don't forget ENVIRONMENTAL = $15; sump plug & washer = $3. They charge about an hours labour & they do an ECU scan
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
Just got mine serviced for it's 15k @ VW McGraths Sutherland and I believe the cost was $465 or thereabouts. Thankfully I have my first 45,000km free after pushing an issue with them. Basically they ****ed us around massively on delivery and a few other things. Negotiated the servicing as compensation.
We talking the 7500km check or the 15k kms first service?
Either way i take mine to derek at european autotech ... Cheaper, he cares, i can hang at the beach while i wait and i can buy extra goodies, and he wont judge my mods
Honestly and considering the increasing costs of running a Volkswagen Service department how much do you think a 15,000km service should cost?
This is the cost I have for my closest dealership
2010 VW Golf 2.0TDI DSG
Labour $148.50
Parts $48 .14 (Oil filter, sump plug and washer additive?)
Oil $83.16
Env $6.60
MISC $6.60
Total Price including GST $293.00
Now I have called a few other dealerships to get a price comparision and most quotes were between $350-$420
I went into my dealership and they said that increasing costs are causing massive issues in the industry and they wont be able to hold those prices for much longer! They will eventually have to up their rates!
He also said they have quite a lot of customers from the city do day trips because they can drive 3 hours and still save
money! PLus they get a nice day in the country! Wow i couldnt see myself going that far but i guess it makes since! And i believe country dealers would probably care more about customers as they do not have as many?
Considering the service interval is 15,000km and that is really a long period is $350.00 a reasonable price to ask? EVen
in a country town such as mine?
