  • Hey guys, used to be an MK5 GTI driver but sadly not owner (brothers car) but just picked up my new baby yesterday,

Rising Blue Golf R - Manual,

It's second hand but I feel like I picked it up at a good price for what it is!

Heres a picture after a quick spray down last night at 2am after a mountain cruise, going to wash it properly today!

        Nice ride.

Haha, I think the MX5 behind it is considered a toy, That car is FUN AS HELL to drive!

Yeah Rob_R, there is never a bad time to drive it ! Picked up at 4pm, drove it all the way till 2am, racked up a good 200k's on it in 1 night, car is a much welcomed step up from the GTI, Grips like hell up windy roads and sounds amazing.

It's my first manual car, and I really don't drive manual often so i'm getting used to it (used to drive my friends mazda3 neo around), took a bit getting used to finding friction point (and dealing with the annoying hill-hold assist ..), though I must say the manual gear box isn't really my cup-of-tea, the gear stick itself doesn't feel too 'solid', tolerable and all but I'm so used to the MX-5 short shifter my friend has, and it's also a lot more stiff.

Here's another snapshot of my R going head to head with my brothers GTI MK5

MK5matty - congratulations on your new car!! If your not won-over by the feel of the manual shift in stock form, then your not alone. There are several affordable things you can do to correct this.

                    1) The most expensive option at around $200. Get a short shifter. The Dieselgeek unit which myself and quite a few others have is widely considered to be the best on the market. It considerably shortents the throw and tightens up the gears. VW Short shifter for 6 speed Golf, Jetta, GTI, GLI, Passat, Audi TT and more.

                    2) Replace the rubber bushings in the stock shifter with metal ones. See Greg @ Carformance for this (sponsor on here). This will remove the rubbery / soft feel of the shifter. I believe these are around $60 or thereabouts. Shift cable end bushings for MKV MK5 6 speed

                    3) Get something called a "torque mount insert". You can get them from Tim @ Dubaddiction. These help stop engine movement and help crispen up the shifts. Depending on which one you get, these range between $50-80. BFI MK5 Torque Arm Insert (to suit up to MY0 - $69.95 : Dub Ad·dic·tion [duhb uh-dik-shuhn]

Just waiting to get some more money for my GIAC tune
