  • Well after seeing it in the flesh yesterday, I am sold. I will be looking to sell my MK6 GTI next year to pick up one of these babies.

    Scirocco R (Blue or White)
    DSG
    19" Rims
    Sunroof

    will have me set.

From what I have read online and asked the guys at the show yesterday, the show car did not have ACC fitted, however the Australian Spec cars will apparently have ACC and Rear Parking sensors fitted as standard.

    Which really only leaves:

    DSG
    Sunroof
    19" Rims
    Sunroof
    Sat Nav
    Leather Seats

    as possible options.

In terms of pricing and release dates I was told that they will be on sale in October 2011. Pricing will be released during the week before the launch. If you want to order a custom one, you will need to wait for a 2012 delivery if you order in October/November.

You obviously found someone more willing to give info than I did...but all in all similar info.
I am looking pretty much at the same spec as you...other than the ONLY colour I am interested in is CW.

So my day trip to Melbourne was worthwhile as far as I am concerned... did anyone else from Sydney go down?

      • Just saw the Rocco! Very low slung and sexy! However it didn't blow me away. Not a fan of the green colour. Don't like the non LED tails too.

I am happy to wait until Feb or March to get exactly what I want.

I have been told by several Dealers now they are happy to allocate one of their "initial" stock to me, once all details are released and they can take orders....for a small deposit, subject to pricing and specification etc etc. I have a preferred Dealer that as yet I haven't talked to as they are a couple of hours drive away...but I will be soon.
Yeah - dealers will tell you that they're happy to allocate one of their "inital" stock to you, because they want the sale. HOWEVER! VGA says that the dealers should not be doing that (for numerous reasons, but including that the official spec and prices won't be available until about a week before the release date), and the BIG CATCH IS that NONE OF THE INITIAL ORDERS will be "to customer spec".

I'm saying that mostly for other people's benefit so we don't have several people "upset" like on every other new VW release (though, as not everyone are members, there will still be some upset people). If you're happy to wait until next year to get what you want though, that's good.

          • I am sold on it, but I forgot to write before, that it does depend on price.

Sure VWA are getting rid of the 3 door Golf R, and have said that the Scirocco R will replace it. However they have not confirmed if it will replace it for the same or similar price.

            Golf R 3 Door:
            $48,490

            Scirocco R 3 Door:
            $??,???

Scirocco R is missing: AWD, 5 Rear Seats, Smaller boot space.

Considering the Scirocco R is cheaper then the Golf R overseas, I would hope that VWA have the Scirocco priced at the same price or cheaper then the Golf R 3 Door.

However if they go and add ACC and Reversing Sensors as standard equipment, and price saving that maybe had, could be swallowed up by standard fit options...

            • Bear in mind that the R is a lot cheaper in Australia than other countries, comparative wise.

It should be around 6.5% less than the Golf R 5 door if you go by comparative pricing on VW New Zealand.
I think that was around the mark for the 3 door Golf R.
As for ACC being standard... meh, I wouldn't have ordered it...but if it comes as standard that is OK, it only adds $1500 and parking sensors front and rear are standard on the R anyway.

When you do the calculation the difference is $340 based on Corey's Excel spreadsheet but since then BT and MDI are now standard so it is pretty much line ball.....

When you add in DSG, 19" Taladega's and Panoramic Sunroof that should bring the "list price" up to $55960 (inc GST) without any "on-roads" or discounts etc.

Yep I was thinking as much. Which is nicely just on or below the Luxury Car Tax Threshold too.

I am hoping that dealers are happy negotiate on price after about 6 months or sale or whatever.

                  • I saw the Rocco on Sat too, may have seen one of you talking to a VW person about it complaining that the Rocco has been on sale overseas for a while already. And then when I came back around the door of the Rocco was left open

                    • Went along to the motorshow on Saturday and saw the Scirocco. Why on earth did they have it in green?!?!?!?! One of the VW staff came up to me and asked what I thought, I said it was nice but why green? haha. She took it to heart and said . . . . sorry . . . . . LOL. I asked if she knew anything about the car and she said yes, then starting asking her a couple of questions and she had NO idea, then forwarded me to another guy who she said knows everything and he had NO idea either, well done VW, well done LOL.

In the end, I met with the actual owner of the green Scirocco and he could answer my questions.

Bit disappointed that I couldnt get a seat in it, but will deffinately take one for a test drive to compare against the Golf R

Which owner would that have been? VWA?
I am interested as to what questions you would have asked that the "owner" would have been able to answer?
And that you haven't posted the info you received in here?

I am sure if you have any other questions about the Scirocco that AP would be able to answer them with a more authority than someone professing to be the owner of a VWA import which will no doubt be used for ADR certification and pre-release Press demo's.

                              What is your problem dude?

He said he was the owner of the car! I wasnt going to argue with him if it was or wasnt his car.

He knew a hell of a lot about the car and the VW range.

FYI, I was asking about what type of diff is in the Scirocco and if it was the same that is used in the MK6 GTI.
