My wife just called me - she saw a story about it online and wants to know if it is too late to cancel our GTI order and get one of these instead. I told her she could get one if she wants to wait 18mths. She wrote back saying it can be our next VW. Ummm I don't think so honey...

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I can't think of a convertible I like that is derived from a donor car. They just look like the original car with the roof hacked off. This cabrio actually looks OK with the canopy up. Down, it looks just awful.GTI MKVI Candy White | 5 door | DSG | ACC | 18" Detroits | Leather | Electric Seat | Sunroof | RNS510 | Dynaudio | Park Assist | RVC | MDI

Also, from memory this will be a 4 seat convertible so no 5 person capacity.

As for convertibles from donor cars, I'll throw this in... was in the Barossa a month ago in a rented Z4 (about 2 years old) and it was utterly sh*te. Other than being limp as anything, it just isn't a well sorted car. Apparently the new one is better, but it just goes to show that a droptop not built on a donor car doesn't mean it's going to be good.

I quite like the Golf Cabrio, it's a really funky looking car and I'm waiting for the .:R department to get ahold of itI see the Eos as more the Passat Convertible.

Golf Convertible
Back at the beginning of March there was a preview in Geneva as reported in our very own news feed:
VWWatercooled Australia - Preview - VW at Geneva 2011
Then on the 10th of May we started seeing local media reporting it going on sale in Germany some time this month (June):
Volkswagen Golf Cabrio: review | carsguide.com.au
After finding out the Polo I ordered will never be made (damn the dropping of Yellow) I have started looking for alternatives and the Golf Cabrio is pretty high on that list... If I could get something approaching firm details I would likely order one now
So far I have hunted up a few details.
It's official release in Australia is due on November 19th 2011. Other than that it's mostly hearsay, but so far it seems we will likely get DSG only and *maybe* a choice of engines including the 118TSI. Colours and options similar to the MY12 Golf which means Bluetooth and MDI included as standard.
If your german is up to scratch you can try reading here where you will find the brochure (and pricing) for the overseas model
Golf Cabriolet < Modelle < Volkswagen Deutschland
For the moment I am trying to hunt up any details on the local release, so if you have heard anything on price, spec, colours or anything post it up here (or send me a PM).Last edited by The_Hawk; 03-06-2011, 03:37 PM.

So the official release being the 19th of November is in Week 42. (details on week numbers) If it takes ~12 weeks from build to ship to customs and onto the showroom floor things need to be moving in in about week 30... Allowing for an extra couple of weeks to ensure there isn't issues due to weather, customs or anything else those vehicles have to be damn near being specced and built...
Since my Polo order is a no go, I want to grab one of these instead and am trying to nail one down now so I can get the (few) options I want and have it delivered along with the launch stock
If anyone has any information or can help me out please let me know!
