I didn't contribute to the poll as I own a more "grown up" VW (Passat CC) rather than the R. But for what its worth, I'm in my early 40s and had just sold a WRX to get into my new CC.
Its actually quite a strange transition, people used to look at me strangely since I was a greying fella in a suit driving a "young hoons" performance car. They now look at me with far greater respect (even though the CC is a faster car lol). Having said all of that, if the R was out at the time that I bought my CC, I may have been tempted but really love the extra luxury, space and comfort of the big brother VW (I ruled out the BMW 135i cause it was too hard and small for me).
One final thing to add: I have read a few comments about assumptions about what "age" the typical person can be before they can afford a circa $50K car. For what its worth, I have (nearly) always had a nice car despite not being born with a "silver spoon". My first car (purchased with my own funds) was a BMW 3 series when I was 21. I did live at home at the time though!
