  • If anyone is planning on installing a Clarivue screen protector for the RNS510... heed the warnings in this thread. Vacuum your car and scrub your hands like a surgeon. I've installed the matte (antiglare) protector. Managed to get it on with only two tiny tiny dust bubbles near the edges, so it's almost flawless. But be warned- my instructions said to peel 'Side 1' then fit the protector. That's crap. It's Side 2 you need to peel, Side 2 is the sticky one. This matters because the thing is such a tight fit that if you try and attach the wrong side you might never extract it from the RNS510 bezel again without ruining it! I recommend ordering two, like i did. Just incase.

The antiglare protector doesnt produce the shiny ipad or 'resolution enhancing' effects others have claimed about the ultra-clear model. It makes the screen look a bit dull and boring. But it does work. When the sun's on the screen i used to not be able to see a thing. Now it's just a little reflective but drastically reduced. The protector also doesn't really pick up fingerprints. And at a quick look you can't tell it's installed.

Has anyone else noticed that the brightness settings of the RNS510 barely do anything? With the matte protector on the screen looks better when set a bit brighter, but the settings don't seem to help that much.

At least you didn't attach the plastic and throw out the protector (after reading the intrsuctions) like... someone i know did. I think they've ordered another one (the antiglare this time) but I don't think they've gotten around to installing it yet.

      • Hi. I am about to pick up my white 118TSI and i have noticed that some cars have a plastic or rubber protection strip running below the doors on each side of the car. I am getting mud flaps and this strip may make them blend in better.

Does anyone know if this is a accessory and where it can be purchased as i can not see them listed anywhere.

        Thanks

        • I' ve fitted rear mud flaps which look ok, but I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to, although I've never seen door strips on a Mk6 Golf.

          • They are not actually door strips, as it is on the body of the car running under the doors.

            Thanks for your reply.

            • Do you mean door sills? (i.e. metal plates that have GOLF written on them)

                • Sorry the picture i wanted to add did not work,

The protection item is on the car in "The official Golf Mk6 picture thread" item 246.

I know i am asking a lot of someone to look it up, sorry again.

                  • I'm a bit busy at work to find it atm - what you can do is go to that post, click 'Reply with quote' under it, then copy the text it generates into this thread so we can see it.

                          • Yep, side skirts are what they're usually called.

Several of the usual suspects carry them (as per the first page of the thread), including ECS Tuning:
                            Volkswagen Golf VI 2.0T > Exterior > Body > Side Skirts > ES#1931428 Golf VI GTI Side Skirts - Kit - 5K0853855

Best of all, ECS Tuning gives you the part numbers so you can do further investigation for sourcing (including from local dealer's spare parts etc)...

                            • Thank you for the help. As i said earlier , it may help to make the mud flaps look better.

I have noticed that most Golfs do not have mud flaps where i have always had them added to my cars, maybe i am old fashioned.

                              Again thanks.

                              • maybe... I guess it's just that they don't really help on a Golf. The dirtiest part of the entire car is always the hatch, mud-flaps or not, and there ain't much you can do to help that
