Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Apologies, have been catching up on this thread.. here is the boot liner I found at Supercheap, havn't seen them there for a while so you might want to look around. It is almost colour perfect with the boot Grey, it was way too big but is designed to be cut to shape. I had it in my Subaru Liberty but cut it down for the Golf R.

It's good to see I'm not the only one with that idea! Makes the Boot Liner a must!

Thanks for that mate.. Yeah I took your advice earlier & got myself a customisable rubber liner.. $20 (YES $20!) from Autobarn.. The only thing I’m missing out on from the $199 OEM VW liner is the ‘Golf’ logo.. Yay.

I’ll take a pic of it soon..

          • After confirming our Golf R I went and bought LED units for the rear rego only to find out ours is an MY12 which comes standard with them - doh. Will be selling them.

Also bought some of the blank switch replacements (garage opener and R emblem)

About to get a custom made cover for the boot. Pictures to come

Have 6 weeks until car arrives so will be checking this thread often for ideas to spend cash

Doubt I'll pay any attention to the dusting, doesn't bother me. Just give them a gerni once a week! More interested to see how much better they hold up at Sandown
What times do you guys run at Sandown in the Golfs? What about PI and Winton?

I used to do track days in my GTR, awesome fun, but very expensive hobbie Interested as to what times you guys can run in the Golf...

Hahah.. Yes I ordered the genuine VW liner. Hopefully it's decent.

Mate, is this the one? Looks like when you cut all the "universal" parts off it's the perfect fit!

Yep thats the one.. it is huge and you cut it down, it is not perfect but damn close and for the coin impossible to beat. It is thick rubber with the stamped metal look.. recommend it highly

                              • Here's the pics of the liner I got.. Took SilvrFoxX's advice and picked up a customisable after-market one.. $20 from AutoBarn.. Massive saving over the OEM one

You can cut a small hole to get the rubber handle through:

..So when you need access to your spare tyre & tools, the liner comes up with the carpet:

As SilvrFoxX mentioned, the liner comes in a big square. You simply remove the original carpet and cut around the rubber:

Great for any car really.. It allows you to make any shape you need:

The rubber itself is not that thick, however for what I need it to do (protect the carpet) it's great:
