I am really not a fan of digital gauges like that, I made something similar with a kit from Jaycar to display AFR hehe... too hard to read rapidly changing digits and you don't see trending very well.
Power, I picked up the line I ran to the rear camera a couple of weeks ago (where I pulled apart the fusebox to put a new fuse circuit in which is always on) and for the +12V ignition line, I found a suitable fuse on the top row that has 12V when ignition on (and cranking... some of the others would drop the 12V during cranking and from what I can determine from the sparse instructions that came with the PODI, you should not use a line that drops during cranking). I used a stanley knife to cut the plastic away from one small part of the fuse and soldered the wire to it (bit getto, might eventually get one of those fuse extension things that can let you tap in that way, but I have a few spare fuses I bought when doing the rear camera.. and didn't realise the camera kit came with a fuse, it was kind of stuck in the bottom of the box hehe). The column cover clips off, no screws or anything. The back of the top cover has a vinyl piece that is hot melted to a section under the MFD, you can unclip that (so I found out after tearing the vinyl away from it... whoops). The PODI steering column cover comes with a VW part numbered replacement vinyl section anyway (since it looks nearly impossible to unclip it from the top of the original steering column cover).

The biggest difficulty was getting the cable from the sender into the car, it seems the only cable entry point between engine bay and cabin is behind the battery (I originally was going to take it thru there, thought the cable they provided might be slightly too short, so mounted it drivers side, then realised I couldn't get the cable into the cabin from there anyway, so back I went to mounting it down the passenger side and luckily the cable was *just* long enough to reach thru to behind near the fuse box).

I got the nice boost tap that easily clips onto the inlet manifold and then the PCV tube goes into it, fits quite well, 42DD make the same boost tap too.

Thanks for the further info. Im only thinking digital gauge as i dont want to put my dodgey wiring in my good car, ive already got a project car which is exactly for that!

A screwdriver will suffice. not too hard to get the screw through the bottom of the rear bumper.

I'm also considering getting a K&N filter. I've found one for the filter itself, the other an intake kit:

My question to you guys is there a point in getting the full kit? I'm not an expert or anything but from what I can tell the only additional thing I get with the kit is the air box.. Surely the filter on it's own (along with the stock box) will do the same job?

Mods for Mk6 77TDI

The other half just bought an '09 (MY10) 77 TDI DSG with the comfort package.

One certainty is it will be getting a zenec and reverse camera.

Outside of that, probably wheels (something black) and maybe the "R" style LED tail lamps.

Delivery is set for friday

Is there anything I should be checking before we officially become the new owners? Its from a dealer, so should be mostly alright I hope.
Any ideas on whats out there that I can tinker with? I'm not one for leaving cars stock for long.

Before you drive off in it, just check all the paintwork and ensure there is NO damage. Likewise for other parts of the vehicle.

TDI's tune very well so I would invest in something like a viezu tune or the like. I myself would avoid the plug-in tune/chips that you do yourself. I know some people like them but from personal experience I wouldn't. Up to you though.

Also try and use the BP ultimate diesel or Caltex Vortex Diesel, as they have lower sulphur and better stuff (too many to list and I don't know all of them).

I'm sure they will tell you this but if they don't ensure you rev the car a bit more than normal (shift up around 3000ish rpm) once a week or so to regen the DPF.

There was some minor damage on the passenger side mirror, which the dealer (City Subaru, Newstead) has agreed to replace.
Aside from that its in near new condition.

Fiance isnt overly concerned with performance, so we'll see how that side of things go. I do agree with you on doing actual tuning, rather than a plug in box. They do work (had a DTUK CDR2 on my old Astra CDTi), but the long term effects are yet to be seen.

Ditto on Caltex Vortex, its all I use in my Amarok, or BP if no caltex around.

Not sure about the 77TDI but on my 118 TSI I've retrofitted 9W3 bluetooth, RNS510, GTI Steering wheel (paddle shifters), paddle extenders, GTI pedals, reversing camera badge, MDI, installed APR Stage 1, bought a VCDS cable for tweaking, a bluetooth ODB2 adapter and car holder to use the Torque app on Android for live data viewing/logging/video recording.

Milltek cat-back fitted this morning, thanks to Dave @ ATPG with the great promo: Milltek Sale: All VW options on special.
Was installed at CRD in Rydalmere. I got just the resonated cat-back section installed, I have the downpipe also, but want to clock up a few more kms before pulling the tailshaft etc out to get that in (and with CEL etc risks, potential warranty hassles/whatever).
The sound of the resonated cat-back Milltek is quite mild, at idle, quieter than stock I think, under WOT, maybe a tiny bit louder, quiet acceptable. Almost wish I didn't go resonated, but apparently once the down pipe & high flow cat goes in, the sound goes up, so it is probably an ideal level really, excellent stuff and thanks again ATPG!

For anyone thinking of doing this, consider getting a few door card retaining clips as they are prone to break. I've only done one door and managed to break one.

I didn't opt for the LEDs. These pics are regular globes and are more than adequate

No, a bit more than that. You have to insert the pins (supplied in a connecting cable) in the main harness plug and do some coding. There is a detailed instruction on the Bold Sport website.
