Actually, Jeremy wrote an entire column on how much he hates the indicators and how stupid their design is. His issue is that steering wheel moves too much and the indicators are never where your hands are..... but from watching many hours of Jeremy driving, he doesn't drive in 9-3 position with hands stationary on the wheel, so this assessment isn't a surprise. Considering most drivers are not race-drivers and are not taught 9-3 hand position etc, I'd say it'd create as many complaints as indicator on the leftOriginally posted by mfl View Postbut back onto indicators, I saw the Top Gear test on the Ferrari Italia, where both stalks have been removed to allow for the positioning of the paddles for the DSG, and the indicators are a button on either side of the steering wheel - solves that issue.

I didn't think you'd need indicators if you drove a Ferrari Italia... assuming it's not on fire.

Yes you are right coreying, Jeremy made the same comment on the show, I was only referring to what side the stalk was on, but of course I wouldn't mind an Italia for a few days to try it out for myself, ....as long a I had a couple of fire extinguishers with me.Originally posted by coreying View PostActually, Jeremy wrote an entire column on how much he hates the indicators and how stupid their design is. Well, VW's attitude there is a bit like their attitude with the indicators. Why haven't they changed the handbrake from the passenger side of the centre console to the driver's side, like is is in Germany? ADR's didn't make them so they save money by not doing so and we end up with a less than perfect set-up.Originally posted by rs73 View Postcoreying,
we need another thread on handbrake position where people can argue to the death about the most optimal positioning of the handbrake levers and how it increases road toll when not positioned correctly...Nov '15 Polo 81TSI manual white

Wow seriously....
Why did Holden have the handbrake on the RIGHT side of the seat in the VN? commodore?
Why is the Toyota Camry handbrake a pedal? Why do many other manufacturers do that?
Why does the Ford Falcon and many other models and manufacturers use the under-dash slide operated handbrake?
Why do BMW and Mercedes and many others use buttons for handbrakes now?
Will you just get over your "my opinion is the only right way to do things" comments?

Yes, many ways of giving us a parking brake - some so a bench seat can be fitted (Holdens) some to keep the centre console clear and some because they use the same system as the American version where there is only auto (Aurion) but with the Golf VW have chosen to keep it in the centre console and on the driver's side, but of course not for Australia.Originally posted by coreying View PostWow seriously....

Coreying, you are the one who seems to get upset if I express an opinion that doesn't seem to match yours. Obviously VW in Germany think "my opinion is the rightway to do things" too. I think you're the one who needs to get over it. After all, isn't this a VW forum where we all love our VW's and probably all have varying opinions. I simply pointed out something I'd like to see changed on my Golf and have the set-up the Germans do - it's great and I love it but it's slightly less than perfect. A parkbrake and indicator swap would get it that much closer.Nov '15 Polo 81TSI manual white

Actually you're wrong there too. Other's have been getting annoyed with your "opinion" and hence why there have been numerous requests from several people to close this thread...
And again, for the 1000th time, it's not that you have an opinion on where you like things to be. It's your constant comments that it's because companies have bad attitudes and are cheap.

Don't think they've done that for a while mate hehe, at least 10yrs.Originally posted by coreying View PostWhy does the Ford Falcon and many other models and manufacturers use the under-dash slide operated handbrake?
But what I don't get is some of the stupid threads and whining on this forum. I mean ffs, indicator stalk? Go buy a jap/aussie car if you think they're on the wrong side. You're supposed to have 2 hands on the wheel, unless you're a one armed gimp or retarded, are you really not capable of using a stalk on the opposite side?

Sounds like abuse to me..... Why should I get a Jap car? I like my Golf and I'd like it even more with a couple of small changes. I do keep both hands on the wheel even when indicating but I can't when changing gears - and I can't indicate and change gears at the same time. Your comment doesn't make sense. You don't have to read this thread and if you do and you have a different opinion then express it but why get abusive just because you disagree?Originally posted by dave- View PostDon't think they've done that for a while mate hehe, at least 10yrs.

it's actually quite common in the states to have a foot operated "e-brake" on the far left of the pedal box.
I was looking for a 1965-1970 vehicle without one, and was having trouble.
Apparently it's done in Japan too, cause i thought it was a clutch pedal when i drove an imported Stagea
