Sorry. I thought the use of quotes was so that you could respond/discuss particular comments that some one makes.Originally posted by Tony_Mitchell_1983 View PostWas that response actually directed at me since you're quoting me? If so, you are one of the poopy heads I previously refered to.
It should be closed as it's the breeding ground of stupidity. If anyone does care it' a bit sad. Left, Right? Seriously... It doesn't matter. If you're indicating and changing gears at the same time, you're doing it wrong! You can't drive! Buy a bus pass.
I just feel like starting to chant 'fight, fight, fight...' It's the only reason I'm watching this thread.mk VI GTI, manual, reflex silver, basic

Tony_Mitchell_1983 with all due respect, I checked my post - I quoted a specific part of your post ,which was attributed to you and made specific comments in reply. a number of people have made comments on closing the thread, including yourself and I made a comment in reply.- next time I will be clearer in my response and attribute the comments/reply accordinglyOriginally posted by Tony_Mitchell_1983 View PostPerhaps, if your response actually referenced my post...mk VI GTI, manual, reflex silver, basic

lucky the pedals aren't subject to the same mirroring inconsistencies...lol...then there really might be some mortal consequence, IMO.
I've heard serious comment about excluding cars with lh indicators from short lists...can you believe? Well, not until this thread.
Indicators are an over rated nicety, IMO. I don't trust what some geezer tells me with their indicator when it comes to giving way. The attitude on the road/suspension is more reliable and won't be subject to the last moment change of idea (I'll leave 'change of mind' out of the comment for fear of confusing most driving being done under deliberate and considered thought).
If there isn't room and you are depending on the good judgement or will of the other road users then be sure to pay your insurance. Still, I use them. Well at least I reckon I do? Even with one rh and on lh indicator car each that I swap between almost daily. Sometimes I get an impromptu windscreen wipe or pause for thought about what I'm actually driving.
The wipers are a more confusing transition between VW and other (Asian) marques, IMO.
Last thing Australia needs is another ADR spec. demanding further small market, cost increasing, configurations to reduce small volume varient AKA 'R' viability. Bah!
And no smilies or other emoticons 'cos I couldn't be arsed, IMO. There! LOL. ; ) Hyprocrite.
...and, and every time I see 'mfl' somehow I think there has been an 'i' dropped. How dyslexically degenerate must 'I' be? Sorry mfl.

That ISO doesn't sound like it's saying the indicator stalk should be on the opposite side to the gear lever but rather that if it's on the LHS, and you move it down you will indicate left and if it is on the RHS and you move it up it will indicate left. So the motion matches the direction.Originally posted by mfl View Postand for reference, the new ISO Standard for Europe:
ISO 12214:2010, Road vehicles – Direction-of-motion stereotypes for automotive hand controls, gives design recommendations for the operating motions of hand controls and a method of verifying whether they meet driver expectations, or "stereotypes". It will improve usability for all automotive users by designing hand controls that conform to driver needs and, in so doing, enhance driving comfort and convenience.GTI | Carbon | Man | 5 door | Leather | 18" Detroit | Bluetooth | MDI | Bi-Xenon

OK
Holden imported the Astra. The indicator stalk placed on left hand side. (Drove Astra for a while. Plenty of wiper action at first!)
And good old dyed in the wool 100% Ausie Holden did not consider it a sales advantage to change stalk position.
Question. Does VW export to Asian countries? Especially Japan? So wonder if this is an issue there?
BTW How about position of hand brake and method of operation in some cars?
Just yesterday witnessed driver chasing his car down hill
from where correctly parked on side of street. (He just made it)
I was about to congratulate him on his burst of speed as I walked by, then noticed there was an elderly male passenger sitting in the front seat.
Woops!! Did the passenger touch something?

The last AStra (AH) did indeed have the indicator moved to the right hand side.Originally posted by Cossor View PostOK

:
The previous euro built astras had the indicators on the left side. Funnily enough it was the 1998-2004 model (left side indicator) that was the biggest seller

we need another thread on handbrake position where people can argue to the death about the most optimal positioning of the handbrake levers and how it increases road toll when not positioned correctly...

of course we would need to include foot operated handbrakes (parking brake ?) as well for that discussion.Originally posted by rs73 View Postcoreying,

but back onto indicators, I saw the Top Gear test on the Ferrari Italia, where both stalks have been removed to allow for the positioning of the paddles for the DSG, and the indicators are a button on either side of the steering wheel - solves that issue.
