Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hey Corey_R, I just picked up my GTI last week and registered to the forum about 30 secs ago. I was led to this forum by researching the rattle which is furstrating me greatly.
You mention in your above post tha tyou have provided part number and the bulitin in your earlier post, can you please let me know where I can find it, as I am taking my car back to the dealer to fix with only 100km on it....

    Thanks !

Cause if you're not, you're kinda wasting your time. The VGA person is correct - no fix has been issued to Australia. The part is here, but no technical fix document. If you're giving them the info on the fix, at least they've got something to go on, instead of trying to find a needle in a haystack
Corey, I've seen you post the VAG part number, but not the VWoA TSB? Can you point me in the right direction for this? Thanks.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that's the one that the dealer showed me when i took the car there a couple of weeks ago for them to hear the rattle - it said it's normal and nothing to be done. I'll pass this on to VAG.

              • I'm positive it's not that one... because 1) it tells you to install the clip, and 2) it's american (VWoA) not australian and thus the Australia dealers can't even see it.

Ok so the dealers can't see that, but VAG Customer support should be able to look it up?

VAG told me to get my dealer to send a technical report on the issue. I asked my dealer to do so, they've asked for my car for a day to work through the issue over the phone with Sydney technical support.

                  • No... lol....

This is why I suggested people either just have patience whilst we're working on this, or if they don't have patience to just order the clip and do it themselves. If everyone keeps bugging VGA without understanding what they need to be asking for then VGA are just going to keep giving you the same story.

The dealers cannot access that TSB.
The VGA people cannot access that TSB.
This "fix" DOES NOT EXIST IN AUSTRALIA.

A VGA rep will need to escalate either to Germany, or contact a rep in VWoA to get the TSB, and then evaluate what to do in relation to Australia....

A few pages back I asked for a member from Canberra to assist with this issue. It's still going on. We're waiting for the clip to arrive from Germany. Once this has happened, and data has been collected, they'll approach VGA with a necessasry reports, we'll then see whether this has any possibility of being a warranty fix, or whether customers can pay for the clip but have it done during their next service, or whatever.

Corey, while I am very appreciative of your efforts and do believe you will probably get this sorted before I do - I don't think that waiting for someone I don't know on the Internet (yourself) to sort this out for me is good enough. Hence taking my own course of action. I actually believe the more people that hassle VAG over this (don't let them close the case until it's fixed) the more attention it will get. If no one calls/hassles VAG then they think the issue isn't bothering/affecting most people - which is incorrect.

On another note - I just got a call from VAG customer service saying they have spoken with head office in Germany and they have a fix (surprise surprise) and that it will be working its way into the Australian system in the very near future. He said he will call me back with an update next week. This advancement probably has a lot to do with the efforts you're putting into this Corey, so once again appreciated. But I hope you understand why I need to keep onto VW myself.

                          • And don't get me wrong Ferni, I understand your point too, and quite honestly, I'd be contacting them as well! My point is, don't be fumbling around. Research first and have a clear understanding and the exact information on hand so that you present that on first contact. Sometimes by the time people come to the right conclusion, the other person has stopped really listening - and I just didn't want to hear it come to that

It's great that they've finally listened enough to re-contact Germany about this issue though. Surprise surprise indeed... there is a fix

I just now hope that VW will install during next service (due soon) and thus be covered under warranty.

Im guessing they will refuse, lets hope not.
