MK6 GTI - Rattle upon acceleration - Resolved via TPI: 2021062/7
I think it's probably the roads you are driving on. Chip seal/Bitumen is a lot louder than Asphaltic Concrete (as you pointted out), but various brands of new tyres should all be fairly similar and quiet when new. It's when they wear that they get louder and the Dunlop Sport Maxx are no exemption (and try driving a car with semi slicks, gets very loud gradually so you don't notice it).
You could always get some extra sound deadening put in at an audio shop if you're worried about road noise, this pic is from another forum but shows they've done the entire floor. The area around the wheel wells would help reduce a lot of it:
Hey G-Rig,
thanks for the reply, great photo of sound deadening, may look into that at a later stage.
Decided to change the tyres after much research on the net and tyre reviews, prices etc.
Car dealership decided to give us some $compo for a less than satisfactory pre-delivery pcik up, so this almost paid
for the Michelin Pilot sport PS3 225/45R17's which are a little quieter, bit more comfy ride......only had them on 3 days before car
went back to dealership/ VW approved paint repairer where front bumper is now in process of having to be re-sprayed due to paint
run that has now been confirmed as being done in manufacturing (the primer) but thats another story, (dont get me started!)
Car will probably be gone nearly 2 weeks, so currently have a Golf Mk6 TDI which was loaned to us all dirty inside and out.
That made it interesting to do a pre-loan inspection particularly the wheels which were black with brake dust etc.
Anyway, sorry I am off track.....just wanted to let you know the outcome and to say "thanks" for your advice

Ill be going to my dealer on this issue and other issues in the coming weeks. If they arnt interested ill go to VWA. Ill take it as far as I have to to get it fixed. I could care less if they think its normal, its not acceptable. Infact im very disaposinted with the overall build quality of the MK6, my ex-Mazda 3 MPS leaves it for dead, as does our MK5.

Will report back when I have more info.
Interesting as my MkVI build quality is much, much better than my MkV was.

I'm pretty much with you on that one mate...I'm borderline getting ready to sell the car after 7 weeks of ownership as I'm not impressed with it, or the service I have received. It's a runaround each time.

Maybe you should have bought a higher quality cappuccino machine

I have found this link YouTube - Wastegates - GCG Turbo's on wastegate.
Still unsure why it rattled less when load the car up with more people on the back.

I havnt been back to the dealer yet so cant comment on their QoS but I know they will try and fob me off. It certainly is disapointing to spend premium dollars over the equivelent Jap cars but end up with something that doesnt even match the Jap quality. Road noise, rattles that are coming from everywhere, a crashy ride, wind noise, defects in the paint and that bloody wastegate/exhaust noise just dont cut it in 2010. Not even from Korean built cars.
Ill give the dealer an opportunity to fix these issues and see where we end up. I wont be returning their loan car unless the problems are fixed. What they dont understand is that the service they give me now will determine if I ever buy another VW. For someone that buys a new car every 2.5 years, like others, its worth keeping us happy within reason.

I am with you there. This is the reason why I left Merc and look like I am leaving VW too.
BMW would be my next venture.
