Thanks for the level heads guys. I was worried after being away all day that this thread would have continued the downward spiral, but there have been some good comments here.

dave_r - you're right mate, these cars are great tune or not.

Ideo - you should totally do a before and after dyno if that's what you wanted to do! Though, I can understand you not wanting to post those details here.

Tim - I agree, I hope that people don't let a few bruised ego's spoil the rest of the forum for them.

schoona - obviously the R and S3 have near identical drive trains. The stock intercoolers are different but once you've changed that, the aftermarket ones are the same. So the R is capable of pretty much the same. I've had R owners PM me with the results of their dyno results and they've very positive - but unfortunately they haven't yet posted their results for various reasons. Also, I was informed that the dyno that halojump ran his Stage II+ R on that after having a few cars not measure anywhere near what they expected, they found a fault with the dyno, which has since been resolved. I hope that halojump wishes to share the results of the re-run at some point.

Until then, we more R owners, stock or any stage of tune, should head to their local drags. It's a lot of fun

mmm a little reluctant to wade into this at this late stage but yeah Corey is right the Nuemann Avenue Garage Dyno had a faulty air intake sensor (thus the weird intake temp numbers).

I've since done another dyno run on a Hub Dyno and am getting ~206kw (205.9 to be precise). I'll post the graph when I can.

Please guys, when getting dyno runs can we get them on a rolling dyno. Hub dyno's generally read higher then what the 'standard' is and thus are rarely used.

You haven't actualy hit the final drive reduction when using a hub dyno, compared to a rolling one.
There is still mechanical forces involved with wheels/tyres, as well as tyre pressures having an influence.

In any case, you don't roll on the street on your hubs do you, you roll with wheels

They produce more consistent results. They take away the tyre/roller from the equation. Thus remove a heap of variables from there. Even how much you've strapped down the car can effect a roller dyno result! There's obviously a whole lot more to it all though.

But, I agree, with DeanCorp and schoona - the results from the two types can't be compared (easily) as the numbers are different.

What generally is the variance between the two types?

With a hub dyno (dynopac), the cars wheels are removed and the hub itself is bolted to the car. This removes any 'gear effect' of the tyre/wheel. Its a reading that is closer to the flywheel output due to removing alot of the drivetrain loss.

A chassis dyno (dyno dynamics/mainline) is where the car is strapped to a rolling road and gives a true reading of the power delivered to the road itself. Typical drivetrain loss for FWD is 20%+, RWD 25%+ and AWD 20-30% depending on the technology.

It's weird, some people pay too much for crap, and others cheapen out "ive just spent 50k on a VW but I can't afford coilovers so Ill only go a spring and shock combo" lol

Plus "I want new wheels and I love BBS CH, but where can I get them cheap". I want a Milltek exhaust but my local can get me an Xforce for 2k cheaper, why dont I just get that.
