    • New to this Forum. Gday all.

Had my car a few months now and decided to take it out to willowbank on the weekend.

      Golf R 3Dr Manual APR Stg 1

Had a few passes with the best being a 14.1 at 100.97mph. 2.15 60ft Had major dramas launching it, it kept bogging down. My old supercharged cooper s did 2.1 60ft (only ran 14.9 at 95mph)

Does this seam right for an APR stage 1 tune?

      Cheers All

Manuals are always going to be a pain to launch perfectly so hard to compare but your mph seems to match a few other APR ST1 tuned cars.

        • Yeah, I had a skim through the previous 50 pages but didnt find to much about 1/4mile times for the manuals.

I think there is a definate high 13 if i can get a good start. A friend came out in his Evo 10 with a DSG box. Stock with a muffler he ran 13.5 first ever pass. Damn DSG (jealousy is a curse)

I guess the poor old clutch needs some more violating to get into the 13s

Beleive it or not the DSG does gain around half a seccond over 400m's!! So your time seems about right based on times that some of the journo's get with the stock manuals.
The only way to get a better launch would be a clutch dump from redline, which is mechanical RAPE for your poor R.

            • Yeah my bad with the evo dsg.
I was talking to another guy with an evo tonight. His has 220wkw and is manual, he told me he got a 60ft of 1.6s, that is unbelievably quick. Half a second quicker then mine. Do you guys think this is possible with a manual R? (or even close) I realize the evo's are lighter also.

              • 1.6s is a very good 60ft time even for an Evo. To get that you're talking a 6k+ rpm launch. Best I've ever achieved is a low 1.7.

I would have thought a sub 2s 60ft time would be easily achievable with an R if you want to do the same sort of launch.

                • Anything is possible but I wouldn't want to be that brutal just for a 1/4m run. Someone else's car? Sure

                  • that's the thing it ain't worth it unless u are trying to break a record. There are things like the WOT box which holds revs and builds boost before u launch, this would improve 60' as you wouldnt have that delay of waiting for boost to build once the clutch is dropped.

                    • Can anyone recommend a dyno in Melbourne, and how much would a standard power run normally cost? Any types of dyno systems to avoid?

                      • Was just having a look around and ran into this

Interesting to see the stock is 220hp and 292NM. Although I guess we all knew the outputs VW quoted for the GTI were abit off.

mainline are the best for the most 'realistic/conservative' figure 'dyno dynamics' are the most excitable.. but im not big on how FWD cars are on dynos

Not sure but it may just be a case of not enough load against the engine due to the ratio of first gear. This is mainly the case though with cars that have a bigger than standard turbo, you will find you cant reach full boost until seccond and in some cases third gear due to there not being enough load against the engine in the lower ratios.
Would not have expected this to be the case with the TSI though?
