Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Sounds like the radiator cooling down the turbo or whatever after you turn it off.

Does it sound like a loud fan going on?

Same goes for my car, read its got something to do with cooling.

I figured it was a cooling of some sort, but it was really noisy, so not sure if it should be that noticeable...

Does it gradually get softer and softer or is it a whine that goes on for abit and suddenly ends?

If it is the latter, then I would say it's the coolant after-run pump; shouldn't always run after every drive - it depends on how warm the engine is, etc.

Given it's a DSG, I think he'll be hard pressed to press the clutch in.

As per DNA Tuning, I'd say it's likely to be the pump cooling the turbo after the engine is shut off - especially if you hear a loud click when the pump switches off.

If you're not sure, just drop by your closest dealership and have them check it out, for peace of mind.

Its quite noticeable, even when I first got my car back in March, I was like huh?

Its nothing to worry about it. Yeah it sounds quite loud, but after 30secs or so, it'll just turn itself off. Having said that, the fan sometimes doens't turn on - depends on the temp. outside.

I work at night, and when I drive home at 1am (esp. during winter) after a 10mins drive then turn the engine off, thn fan isn't running i.e. you can't hear the noise. So I assume its a cooler fan of some sort.

Lately, the fan has been coming on when I come home at night, which I attribute to the warmer temperatures at night.

              Nothing to worry about!
