Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Guys, i have nothing to prove here other than to satisfy myself with what this car is capable of.

Im using a G-Tech Pro SS which is a well proven device for measuring acceleration, & G's ect. Its not an iPhone app.

At the end of the day, if it does low 5's or sub 5 0-100 times i would be happy with the Stage 1 done.
And for the sake of posting the results on the forum for other members info.

My post regarding 4500rpm and no launch control was the truth. I have no reason to B*** S**T. Thats simply what it did.

Im not going to go as far as taking a video of it just to prove myself.

I will be doing the next tests with the use of launch control/sport mode with around 1500k's on the clock.

I guess going by the last few posts that if it does what ever times according to the G-Tech Pro, its not going to be believed anyway (by some)........Rant over...

270kW and 500Nm with the DMS retune, I reckon it would be pretty quick

Ignore the naysayers FLM. I for one are very interested in the results and can completely understand if you are not in the position to video it.

            Thanks guys.
I will post the info up as soon as possible, despite the "naysayers".
            Cheers.

It is interesting that most of the naysayers are current MkVI GTI owners....

                Volkswagen Golf R

The latest generation Golf R has 188kW and Volkswagen claims it stops the clocks in 5.9 seconds. However, an independent test by the Carsales Network using satellite-based timing equipment returned four runs (two in each direction) of between 5.2 and 5.4 seconds (one person on board, full tank of fuel, 12 degrees outside temperature)!
So, I stood on the side of the empty remote flat road in freezing conditions while my colleague set about doing this scientific experiment. And after two runs (one in each direction to account for incline and decline and wind direction) he thought there must have been a mistake... So he repeated the test... The results: four passes between 5.2 and 5.4 seconds each.

As we've said earlier this was at low altitude, 12 degrees and no breeze. In other words: ideal conditions. We tried it later in the day in slightly hotter conditions (16 degrees) after three-quarters of the fuel tank had been emptied, and got a 5.4 second time with no troubles. We were both stunned.
Sub 5 seconds with just an APR stage 1? Starting to look likely!

SteveP in the UK had an R as a loan car, stage 1 tune and catback (not sure what brand tune).

Was given the chance to take it down the 1/4 strip at the GTI International show, run an OK 13.4 seconds 1/4 mile with a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds.

                    I just completed two runs.

I will take a pic of the G-Tech runs shortly and post them up.

I could not believe the results but they are why they are.

1st run with launch control at 3000rpm:
                    4.68
2nd run with launch control and 2500rpm:
                    4.88

1/4 tank of fuel and no passengers.

                    What a car. Very happy!!!
                    Pics to follow of G-Tech.

                    Edit: pics added

                      Sensational!

I looooove my GTI, but with times like those... damn, maybe I should have bought an R!

Time to go think about a stage 2 and a set of semi-slicks, haha!

                      • Just a Q about how the G-Tech works.
My understanding is that it's triggered by movement?
If so, the initial DSG launch delay would not be factored?

Either way, that's only a small delay and these would still be under 5sec!

                        • But even in a proper drag race, the lights go green, and if you actually WAITED for the lights to go green before you went through the motions to take off, you'll lose the race... so the pro drag racing guys are attempting to pre-empt the green to remove their reaction time and any reaction time that the car needs. So in a drag race, you'd be doing that and taking into account (the now rather short with the R) delay in the DSG...
