I have spent a fortune over the years with personalised plates, i'm on to my 5th set. I always chose something which was specific to the make/model of the car. I then either left the plates on the car when i sold it or tried to sell them afterwards which can be a pain.

This time around i decided to just order some that i can keep and transfer from car to car so i just used a combination of my initials and dob.

I was thinking along the same lines when purchasing my plates, personally thought it would be a hassle to try and sell car/make specific plates when selling the car, so I opted to go with something non-car related. Coincidentally, there is a wee bit of relevance between my plates and the car.

The very first Golf R I saw on the road had the personalised euro plate of V WR 020..

I'd thought of that but seems a bit captain obvious. Can see its a VW, has an R badge on the back etc. GOLFR etc would get confused with old people who walk around golf course on a sunday mirning in their pyjama pants and silly jumpes hehe. I guess you're either into plates or not. I'd be happy if Vicroads offered the next available combo euro plates in black like they do white.

This latest set is costing me $585 but they vary in price depending on the style and material used, but yeah, it's easy been a couple of grand.

Personalised plates are fairly cheap here in WA but the Euro plates are a bit of a joke, $400 for ones they give you over the counter, three letters of your choice $800 and it goes up from there. Personally I don't see the point in plates but I got a set of the euro plates to try and cover up that large black plastic plate holder.

Std Euro plates are also $400 in NSW.
$595 in QLD
$575 in TAS
$495 in VIC.

So if they're only $400 in WA, then stop complaining
(Although I thought that they were $445 in WA, as per Transport WA's Plate Fees PDF)

Yep $445 for the basic Euro's in WA, then $585 for mine which is where you can have 2 letters & 3 numbers of your choice.

Towards the end of the R32, they bought in a limited number of Candy White and Tornado Red R32's. I'm not sure if there was opportunity for customers to specify options and custom order, or whether it was just a case of taking what the dealers had in stock. But there you go

I saw a white one this afternoon, a 5DR, out the back of the Hospital on Macquarie St... it was nice, very clean

To choose your own combos or Black plates, its $695 which is absurd for 2 bits of metal!

Here is a question for those that already have the R, on the VW website it says it comes with Window tinting but it is a bit vague, does it actually come with UV window tinting on ALL the windows, or is it just a dark tint on "some" of the windows?? Same thing with the parking assisting sensors, I've read that it comes with rear and front is that correct, as on the option features it has it marked as not an option rather than "S" for standard.

I completely understand. It's the same deal in NSW though but arguably worse.
Sure, $400 is a bit less than $495 - but you still just get the next combo. If you want personalised, it's $200 plus $90 per year (if you use the defined formatting limitations), or $200 plus $400 per year

Let me say that again. $400 PER YEAR!.

I'd rather pay $695 than $600 in the first year and $400 each year after ANY DAY!

All of this is elsewhere. Especially the tinting, there are dedicated threads about that. Use search
Quick summary is that the "Dark Tint" refers to the factory tint in the glazing itself. It is only on the rear side windows and the rear window. All windows are heat and uv insulated though - although none offer as good heat or UV rejection as aftermarket tint film does.

Parking sensors are on front and rear. The thing you're getting confused with (which is not an option) is Park Assist, which on lesser Golfs gives you front and rear parking sensors, plus an extra two side sensors, and the ability of the car to parallel park itself.
