Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Black looks good on white, silver on blue just like the wheels, IMO.

Each to their own. I specifically ordered the 19 inch rims so I could get the black lights on with my rising blue.

I don't actually mind either as long as it all ties together, just think the black lights look cheaper.

Yeah - I normally would prefer black lights, but on the Xenon lights for the GTI and R, the "surrounds" are still black, but it's the "projector holder" which is either silver or black. The design of the projector holder is really cool, so I think that the silver is awesome, whereas in the black the detail of this design feature just gets lost.

Despite having 18" wheels I have the black headlights! I only realised when I read on another forum that only the 19" wheels come with the wheel arch lips, but I thought hmmm I have the wheel arch lips. So straight to the garage and sure enough, black headlights, wheel arch lips and missing screws from the wheel arches.
When I picked the car up I did read something in the dealers paperwork that said 'wheel swap', I asked what that was and she just said it came with 19" wheels but they swapped them onto another car. I never put two and two together to realise that meant I got black headlights! I always thought my car looked better than the others
Thats awesome! I would get the 18's If I could get the black headlights combo. I only got the 19's cause of the blackened headlight cluster.. Cause I can tell you the 19's dont look that big at all to begin withTBH.. In saying that, I really like the silver details as well. Looks very stylish (more classy).

Seems like most people like the blackened headlights, probably because it's something new. Ties in well with the black grille.. Would be happy with either.. Would most likely sell the wheels anyway whether they are 18 or 19". The upgrade to 19" wheels and tyres is worth it for $1300 as the tyres alone would be worth 2k, although then you have to keep buying 19" rubber.

ps. 29 people voted black and 3 voted silver on vwgolf.net.au

Yeah I don't think it would affect resale either way. Black is just a novelty IMO.

I prefer the silver accents too. But with some colours and wheels combos, the black headlights look better.
Will make chasing up one's ideal R in the used section of carsales all that more difficult in years to come.

I prefer no silver on mine but I don't think I'd even notice after a while.

Only of interest for the stop light GP... but still.

Well, if you view it ONLY in that context, obviously. But viewed in the overall context, which is - no matter how good you are at driving a manual (and that guy can flat shift!) you still are not going to beat the speed and efficiency of a DSG. Yes, that means from the traffic lights. But it also means in any other situation requiring you to change a gear swiftly....

It's still like splitting hairs compared to other mods and against faster/slower cars.

Just depends how much driving involvement you want and if you drive in traffic etc (and laziness).
