maybe its nto compatible with iphones for listening to songs via the MDI? or is there another SPECIFIC DEDICATED cable for JUST the iphone? (because as you know, apple chargers are all universal for ipod an iphones)

I have an iPhone 3GS and it works fine listening to songs through the MDI.

UUUMMM argument over?? think not. better vehicle won out?? thems fightin' words. So it takes 20 minutes for an adult to get in the back seat, how cares! and when the door is opened it reaches across the road, not a problem! or there are no opening rear windows, who needs fresh air! the MOST compelling argument for two doors remains: The R looks better in two doors.

Guys... there have been numerous heated arguments over 3dr vs 5dr in the past... lets just leave it.

Those who wanted a 3dr have hopefully got it now, those who hadn't, well they had their chance.

i have both. i have the one which can hook up to a USB (i.e plug one end to MDI, then it will allow you to insert a USB flash drive or anything of the like) and i have one which I can hook up DIRECTLY to the iphone. (i.e from MDI unit to iphone/ipod)

yet it says on my iphone that it is not recognised when i use the ipod/iphone connector?

What iPhone do you have? My iPhone4 works with no problems. It does say when I hook it up that some functionality may not work but the MDI definitely does for songs. Haven't tried to play video yet.

Thats simple, they found that a performance car that was supposed to appeal to men that had only 2 seats wasn't as attractive to that market as they first thought..

I tried every cable I had at home, and Boy I had a lot, nine would work.
So, i went down to local VW dealer's parts division and bought the "IPod MDI Cable" NOTE it says IPod not IPhone on the packaging.
Anyway it is about $83 incl gst, and it works really well.
I can see my playlists, and all music related storage.
Plays well, and allows you to use the screen or wheel to make adjustments.

The only issue i have with it is it is Fracking short.

Why can't they make a longer cable?
I would love to have it reach my phone as it sits in its cradle on the windscreen. Major design issue.

The entire point of having the MDI is to not have cables across your interior though.
If you're going to have your iPhone on a cradle on the windscreen, why not just use the audio output or bluetooth audio streaming? Sure, you can't skip tracks etc from your steeringwheel controls, but you can still adjust volume and you have the iPhone right there anyway.... having a really long cable defeats the purpose (oh and btw, would probably exceed USB specification.. not that apple are entirely following it anyway)

As far as the while iPod/iPhone thing is concerned when working correctly with MDI, I have heard (though not confrmed) that it's only the iPhone 4 which will work 100% correctly through the car, and all other previous iPhone models will work to some extent, just not as well in terms of controllability etc...

Can anyone confirm this? Or is this a myth?

Save yourself some money and dont get ripped off by VW by paying close to 100 dollars for a simple cable. That money can go towards your Stage 1 upgrade :p

And yes i can comfirm the cable works 100% with my iPhone 3GS, full function, no issues.
