    So am I. LOL.

Bad timing. VW has reduced the driveaway price of the Jetta by over $5k in the past 6 months, which further pushed down the value of used cars. After driving it for only 2 years it is now worth 1/3 of its original price to tradein, and around half for private. I've already had a few dealerships value it but wasn't happy with the price. Recently advertised it for private sale but literally got no responses.

Might be better to keep it a little bit longer since I've already been hit by massive depreciation. Not sure I want to spend a fortune on the changeover cost for a new car right now

My mums 118tsi also had the problem, just had it fixed and i bet it'll come back

Anyway, my girlfriends car ran out of warranty and now she called back and asked if they can look at it again because its making the same noise again,

They told her over the phone that they might now be able to cover it now and she may have to pay for the repair, has anyone had this issue?

Is the part that was preciously changed still in warranty perhaps?

    Mitch,
The part should have a 2 year warranty but you might be in for the labour cost (depending on the dealer and how much "pressure" you can apply)
    cheers,

My clutch pack was replaced in late 2012. About 20,000 kms on it's starting to shudder again. Not as bad but gradually getting worse. I'm really getting sick of this.

Not sure who you were referring too? ^^^
I am pretty sure all stealerships plus others know the issues and are dealing with them (volume wise) the best that that can.

There's been a recall on some of those too Stay away from anything with that gearbox. If you are considering a new Golf then the TDI or GTI are the ones to get as they have the wet clutch 6spd dsg.

I've got a shudder on my 118TSI, very noticeable when changing from 1st to 2nd. Had an issue when flogging it in sports mode where the gearbox took a good half a second to engage second gear, meanwhile my car was decelerating which was a bit worrying! It's inconsistent and not always reproducible which is frustrating as I haven't been able to show the dealer that the fault actually exists.

Haha thanks Adam, my thoughts exactly when deciding on the S3. I wouldn't have bought it if it had of had a 7 speed DSG in it, no matter how fun it was to drive or what badge was on it

    Reviving an old thread... Unhappily.
Has anyone else had a shudder come back after the recall was done?
Had what felt, at first, like a misfire but upon driving it down (after not driving it all weekend) to Euro Elite for them to have a look, it felt more like the dsg again, but shudders in almost every gear. Most noticeable between 6th and 7th.
They did a scan for me, 0 errors and took it for a drive, so thoughts are it is the clutch pack again.
Booked in to VW for them to do a diagnostic, expected out come is the clutch packs - this will be the third replacement if it is the cause.
I love this car but can't wait for my new car to be delivered now. Was tempted to keep the 118 as my daily drive but doubt I will.

I was getting shuddering in my car when low down in 2nd gear, especially when it just changed from first to second...and it was just getting worse and worse...

I took it to my local VW dealer (NMG at Kedron), and the service guy got a mechanic to come for a drive with me. With the mechanic in the car, I couldn't replicate the bad shuddering (it would do the shudder thing 8 times in a row at times)... I was worried because I couldn't replicate the bad shuddering they would not do anything about it. When we drove into the driveway of the dealership the mechanic said that it was definitely warped clutch plates because he could hear a couple of little shudders and that he would arrange to have the clutch plates replaced under warranty. He made sure the parts were available, ordered them, and booked me in the following week... He said that they now put spacers in the clutch which will stop the clutch plates from warping and I won't have it happen again because of the spacers.

I picked the car up just before the weekend, been driving around heaps and it's like a new car again... I'm very glad that my local dealer has good customer service and knows how to look after the customer... a bit of a different experience to what some others have experienced reading this thread...

Not overly impressed as components of this supposed quality should not just give up the ghost after 3 years and VWA not accept full liability for what is now known to be a design fault causing poor reliability.
On the plus side, at least the parts will be covered by some kind of parts warranty for a couple of years.
Lets see how long these last........
And now onto the latest in the TSi complete set of major faults..........she came home tonight with low coolant level indication (engine temp Ok though), engine management system light on and a "rattling noise" from the engine. There is also a sort of wheezing noise coming from the engine when driven, but ok at idle. Coolant level was at the bottom of the tank, but engine did have a very hot smell to it. Going by the noise I reckon it could be the dreaded engine failure scenario that the 118TSi seems prone to. I feel another big $$$ bill and argument with VWA coming on....this time I'll be going lemon law if they do not cough up even if car is 12 months outside of warranty, but with only 55,000km on it.

I had the clutch plate on my car replaced a second time. It ran smooth but not for long. The shudder came back, which tells me the problem is not with the clutch plate. Frustrated, I drove the car in manual mode for a week. Initially I felt the shudder in different gears. After about a week, the car seem to sort itself out. Now I am back in auto mode and it drives as it should. The shudder is gone and fuel comsumption has returned to normal. Hope this works for you guys out there with this problem.
