Lol... they both look crap cause they're 5dr's, but that's the topic for another conversation!Originally posted by dave_r View PostHow crap does it look in a 5dr....GTI lol
lol yeah...Originally posted by adzy View PostLol And on that bombshell..... thread closed
actually...
Going back a few posts to dave_r's question.... Golf R vs Golf GTI. Which one would I get now?
The Golf GTI... they no longer sell the 3 door Golf R in Australia, so that only leaves one option... the Golf GTI.
Thread closed!

Yeah, 3 door Golf GTI is still available. They only stopped the 3 door R.
There are several blue's available for the GTI internationally... just not here. From what we've seen, you've got more chance of getting a non-standard colour than a non-standard body type :/

Did you read what the comment was referring to? The ridiculous claim that a stock GTI cannot put it's power down on the road which is absolute rubbish especially when you look at stage 2 and 3 GTI's getting around with no problems.
If someone is claiming that a GTI has too much power for it's drivetrain they're either an idiot or they haven't driven one.
I don't recall anything about a GTI with crazy power.and quite frankly upping the power on the GTI like crazy and leaving everything else stock or almost stock will render the car quite difficult to drive on the track and is a lot less easier than you make it out to be.
The original statement was a stock GTI could not deliver all it's power on the road and you needed to buy an R to do this which is just plain rubbish.Which goes back to the original statement... a golf r is much more capable of handling all the power upgrades with out significant modifications to other drive train components like suspensions wheels and tires etc.website: www.my-gti.com

I have no idea what you're on but there was no talk of this crazy powered GTI you keep going on about, the discussion was about stock and the same applies to stage 1 and 2 in that if you can't get the power down on the road you can't drive or have never driven a GTI.Originally posted by robby_jai View Postmy comments were more aimed at Corey with his rather specific comments which were:
"So yeah - I echo the comments of Maverick and brad in that if people are whinging about not being able to put down power in the GTI, that it's more a case of lack of talent from the driver, than lack of potential in the car
"
Which is as far as I am concerned a complete load of rubbish. A lot of people arent able to put the power down on a powered up GTi.. purely because of its front drive characteristics and the fact a lot of people leave suspension and other drive train components as stock.
Is this some kind of sour grapes? The cars are setup just like anyone would set them up before sending them to the track so what's the problem?Correy's argument to that is look at the APR Golf R and GTI as an example and that if you cant handle it... you're a sook.
Corey seems to forget that your car handles so much better because its been set up to handle around a race track. thats what your cars are built for.
How many people who power up their car take it onto a race track? 5%? 10%? And this is a customer choice, if they don't want to do the the suspension they don't have to do it.Guy you know yourself a lot of customer cars have power ups galore but leave a lot of other drive train components alone.. and in a FWD car.. that doesnt make for happy times around a race track.
Nope it just means you can't drive.i've driven a heavily powered up FWD car around a race track with stock tires and no suspension mods.. and it was a complete prick of a car to get around the race track quickly.. and i would like to think i'm not exactly a complete dumbo around a race track and I can get a car around a race track pretty dam quickly..so if i find a heavily powered up FWD difficult to get around a race track quickly .. does it mean im a whinger?
Good you agree then, modified GTI's are fine even when everything else is stock.Frankly im surprised people find modified GTI's a handful if everything else is left alone...website: www.my-gti.com

Waiting for avalanche of abuse from 3dr owners.......

Ok but really I cannot understand how or why one GTI owner let along two would say that unless they're lacking any motor skills and can only use the accelerator in the one position.Originally posted by DDTW View PostI did not manufacture the quotes Maverick. Horses for courses I guess...
Although in any car or SUV, the 3dr is always the "poorer" cousin of the 5dr equivalent.
Which is why pizza delivery cars and driving school cars are always 3dr - cos they are cheaper to buy!
The argument that a 3dr is more sporty is kinda moot - you want a sports car, get a proper one which was designed from the ground up as a sports car. This discussion is similar to those soccer mums who drive Beema X5s and Range Rover Sports who claim that their SUV handles like a sports car so their car is the best of both worlds.
At the end of the day, I can summarise this discussion by comparing to it to paying to see a Minogue but only getting Danni....
