Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Well unjustified criticism and bullying of my Dub Dub is not acceptable . All this handling drivell is just so subjective and is not all car related. When I drove a GTI at the VW drive day I also had trouble making the apex when trying to drive like Fangio whilst having the driving skills of Sgt Schultz .

      • Would be interesting to note if the drive days allowed you to turn off traction control as i find the 4Mo system is a lot easier to use when TC is turned off.

This could account for the difference in fun while driving.

No, the main purpose of the drive days is to allow you to experience the ABS, ESP gadgetry, at least for "insights" and "progression" courses.

The Rs all had ACC set to "sport" and no ACC for the GTIs

Well that would make the Golf R feel a lot less nimble and responsive as TC kicks in jerks the steering around rather than progressively allowing you to push the rear out and then bring it back in.

              Spot on!

I have used ESP on, and ESP off on track days.....big difference on the track.
The ignition cut & ABS cutting in is pretty annoying to be honest!

I noticed the same thing on mine (same 4mo system).
It is a lot more enjoyable and controlable when you turn off the ESP system as you are the one dictating what happens.

I don't like the car sensing the rear slipping then cutting throttle/braking and adjusting for me when i am already attemtping to do so which results in over-correcting.

Having siad that it was at a fun lap session rather than a full on sprint but the same principles apply.

                  Exactly!

What i can notice is that switching ESP off on my 2010 is that it disables TC totally, and ESP is 60% off if that makes sense...Probably the same for yours team_v.

Yes that is the same for me.
I believe the MY12 Golf R could completely disable ESP but you would have to clarify that one.

It would be interesting to see how both cars behaved when you actually open them up to driver input without the car trying to "save" you all the time.
Imho the Golf R would come into it's own then but with all the safety features it does get a bit watered down.

There is nothing wrong with your dak dak, except for the size of the rims and you have a dead cow interior. Other than that it is $10K better than a GTI and $20K better than a CW GTI

                          • I was referring to your comment about dak dak's. You offended an entire nation with that comment

Still, vs a GTI, could make for a good thread.
