From what I have been reading the Scirocco IS based on the GTI platform (as we already know) however the finished product is far better behind the wheel. Stiffer suspension of course and much more feedback through the wheel.. doesn't the scirocco have wider track front and rear also; which would improve handling greatly. Receiving great reviews from journo's in europe, a much more focused 'drivers' car.

So, if the reviewers are right and the Scirocco is a better driver's car, despite being based on GTI MkV, does that mean a current GTI with a 188 kW tune is also a better drive than Golf R?
Comparing white cars to neutralize R's blue superiority, of course.

Its not all about power, the main points I have heard reference to is the poise, steering feedback and reduction in understeer. It is set up with stiffer springs and sway bars compared to the MKVI GTI. It all depends if you want a chassis that is more playfull/adjustable (FWD)Originally posted by sabloke View PostSo, if the reviewers are right and the Scirocco is a better driver's car, despite being based on GTI MkV, does that mean a current GTI with a 188 kW tune is also a better drive than Golf R?

Well... since this is the Golf GTI vs R thread, and has nothing to do with the Scirocco, you have settled the thread for us. The Golf R is 2.5 seconds quicker than the Golf GTI, and therefore better! /Thread

I thought this video is great, bringing together all of VW hot hatches. Sure, the R is faster than the GTI by a fair margin but then it was to be expected given the power difference. Funny how much taller GTI and R look next to the Scirocco!

If I was the Scirocco I'd be fastest around the track also because I too would hate being continually hit from behind with an ugly stick!!!Golf R, Rising Blue, 5 Door, DSG and some extra fruit.

The time captured here is for a less twisty track. The commentator mentioned that because the Rocco doesn't have 4-Motion, it has a higher top speed and will perform better on less twisty tracks.| Golf R MY11 | DSG | 3 Doors | RB | Recaro | 19" Talladegas | ACC | Sunroof | BT | APR S1 | APR Carbonio | MillteK Sport CBE |
