  • that is expensive, looks like you've paid the rrp of the car + options. oh well as long as you are happy with the purchase, that's all that matters

    • There's at least a $1,500 discount there guys. You all need to learn how to add up your parts
If NiNi_LoCo is happy, that's what matters. As has been said many times before. For everyone that gets a 15% discount, they then need to sell a few at RRP to make up for that fact....

Yeah, bloody hell guys, don't kill his buzz before he's even got the car

I actually suspect that discounts are going to be thin on the ground now anyway with the apparently growing waiting list for the R anyway. With a 6-8 month waiting list, a dealer would have to be pretty silly giving away big discounts.

well you could look at it through that lense.. or the reverse.. given the wait some might opt for soemthing else ( believe it or not) rather than risk losing a sale the Rep may offer some incentive

+1. exactly. I can't believe you could see it any other way, when talking in wholistic terms.

              • I think it may get to some point where they are asked to not take any more orders. Maybe one of our dealer friends can answer this, but a family member bought a Tiguan in the 2nd week of their availability. By the time she took delivery, the orders had blown out so much that the person who handed her the keys mentioned they couldn't take any more orders at that time because the waiting list had exceeded the Australian allocation at that time.

If that is true, then I could understand why dealers wouldn't be worried about not getting every sale on the R at this time.
I mean, increasing sales is great, but it also needs to go hand in hand with increased production.

                • LOL a dealer NOT taking orders? In what reality would that happen? They're there to sell cars, like they care if you have to wait 6mths.

And to justify that a few people need to pay full RRP as a charity to the rest of us that got good discounts is absurd.

                  • If the lead time was very high, further orders could be scheduled when the next shape/generation is due to be launched,
yet pricing and specification may not be available...

That's the only possibility that i can think of?

So you can get a maximum discount of 15% ? I should take that in mind when negotiating my final price, I want to order a 5 Door Manual FULLY OPTIONED so I should get the maximum discount they can offer. On the weekend I visited one dealer to just see what they would offer without pushing them to the limit and the sales rep. only offered a discount of $3,800. To be honest I think they could of done a lot better.

Any suggestions on which dealer to go to? And which sales rep. to ask for?

Everyone has a different angle on negotiating and the value should be the degree of happiness you leave after the process, not finding validation on a forum. To achieve this I recommend you work out what you want and what you think is a reasobale price and walk into a dealership , sit down and tell them this is what you want and what you think is fair price if they want an order on the spot.. that is the starting point and removes all the emotion and sales processes put into play if you want to go test drive and then discuss.

As for a dealer.. where are you..?

I'm in Melbourne and would like some advice on how to negotiate with sales reps. Any specific dealers or reps I should go to?
Another question is, can you get further discounts on top of corporate discounts? eg. my dad works in the car industry and is therefore allowed a discount on any new car, is it possible to get a further discount on top of this one?

                            • What?? Are you old enough to even hold a licence?

If you don't know how to negotiate by the time you have a licence.. There's little hope for you.

Negotiating 101 - Ring around. Ask dealers if they are willing to take an order at price you are asking. If not, try the next. But at the same time, ask what each dealer's lowest offer is.

I really think with the demand, getting 15% will be scarce now. Cancelled orders are going for full RRP.

Corporate discount is offered to 99% of the population. It's easy and it's a credit from Volkswagen Australia... Doesn't hurt dealer profit margin. So, obviously, there is plenty of room to negotiate further...

I was just asking for some extra advice that maybe I don't already know of so you don't have to put it that way.

You have confirmed for me that you can negotiate further after receiving corporate discounts. Being that said, with the discount offered to me already plus the corporate discount, I should be able to get the final drive away price under LCT.
I haven't mentioned to the dealer yet, that I'm applicable for a corporate discount. The reason being is I just wanted to know a rough negotiated price without haggling to the limit and I wanted to get a few more quotes before striking a final drive away price.
