I believe you bought your's from the same place as me so i'm assuming they will be arriving together.
I got the 5dr DSG with Leather, elec drivers, sunroof, sat nav+dynaudio, bluetooth, MDI and 19" silver and ACC

Ordered from Dermot @ Wangara, so if they are the same place then we could organise an "R" collection event

btw ordered my Euro plates and got the approval letter yesterday for W VWR2000!!!

    • Finally pulled the trigger on a 3 door manual in rising blue with the following options,

      - Fibre/Leather Racing Seats
      - Adaptive Chassis Control
      - 19” Talladega Silver Alloy Wheels
      - Electronic Sunroof
      - RNS510 Sat Nav with Dynaudio
      - Media Device Interface
      - Rear View Camera
      - Factory Bluetooth

Since the privacy glass is standard it’s going to be a pain matching the tint all round as I want 15% tint for the rear and front windows.
I’m also not impressed that you cannot order the car without the number plate hold. As I have slim Euro plates I was thinking to colour code the number plate holder.

So I take it you're not going to bother with car insurance, registration or driving at night or overcast days? Wny not go for 5% tint for that extra cool look and you'll save the cops the bother of having to test the windows as they can write down 0% visibility tint on the infringement notice or charge sheet.

        • Unless you're a pimp there's no point getting tint too dark or it just looks tacky and cheap. You'd get away with 20% which is what you'd need to match the rear glass properly, but it's more the colour that is hard to match.

You have picked some awesome specs, would of loved the sat nav-Dynaudio & ACC but that would of pushed me way over my budget.

Yeah bought mine from Dermot also so a "R"collection event sounds like a great idea. Would be nice to have them parked next to each other and get some pic's of them both prior to taking the keys for the first time.

Great choice in plates, was thinking of Euro plates also as Dermot's demo has them and they look great....

My dealer included tinting the front windows in my final price, he said they have a specific tint to match the privacy glass that they use.

            • What tint does Wangara think matches the R?

              Comment

              • The Golf R, and all European cars with factory "Privacy Glass" have glass which is 65% darkened. The only tint we use to match it is "Street Legal" 35% window tint!

                • Question on the privacy glass, what is it's UV protection and heat blocking ratings? I might be wrong but I heard/read somewhere that it's not that high?

Sorry, I meant like what brand and "tint model" do you use to match with the colour and visual darkness of the factory tint.

Yeah, I've tried and failed to find any specifications on the VW factory tint, other than the VLT which is possibly 35% (if we assume that the 65% of what is being blocked is visual light).

Any idea what brand/type of tint? Mine is a pretty good match but apparently Llumar AT 35 GN SR HPR is a perfect match but MEP films in AUS have never stocked it.

Shame you can't get the R without any privacy glass as it's pretty steep for $400, then you have to pay ~$200 for the fronts hard to match the front windows as well as being hard to match. Seems that to get proper UV protection on the rear section you have to apply some clear UV tint.

Pretty sure the brand is called 'Street Legal'. I've never looked closely, but I've never noticed any difference between my front and rear windows.

My left leg has never been so happy. For the 90% of my driving that is in Sydney traffic I am enjoying the relative ease of the DSG over a manual. The auto program isn't exactly as I'd have programmed it, but I am learning to love it and it serves it's purpose. For the remaining 10% of my driving in which I can have some fun I use manual mode and find it drives exactly like a manual would but I can nowchange gear in 8/1000ths of a second. In an ideal world with no traffic or red lights I'd have the manual, but Sydney traffic is terrible.

I can appreciate that and my dealer has been the same. But they're also stating clearly that the dates are best guesses which is an honest response. The point I was making (and not an attack on dealers) was that it appears some people are either being misinformed or not understanding the information presented and there is a good chance they will be in for a disappointment when the dates talked about come and go.
