    • Had my drive today of a 5dr DSG.... first up, it would suck to have just bought a GTI

I now cannot wait for my car to come, very impressed. Did a mix of every road I could find, including yarra boulevard which was half wet. The grip level on the road was changing mid corner but the car didn't fuss one bit.

I'm glad I didn't go the blue, its nothing like the R32 blue which I loved. And the people who think it doesn't have enough presence are wrong. The R was parked next to an R32 at the dealer and it still stood out.

To echo the comments of others, it's a great drive. Steering, ride, grip all good. The acceleration is amazing and yes it's no R32 V6 but they've made it sound great. In D, nice and quiet. Good cruiser. Shift down into S and it comes alive. They really have come up with a great package at a good price.

The car just encouraged me to drive like an absolute nutter...oh and launch control works! There is a slight pause on take off but I assume that is to protect the driveline, after that it just rocks off. You don't even notice a gear change.

I just cannot understand how useless VWA is with ordering stock. My dealer only has 4 cars, they'll all be done by tomorrow afternoon IMO.

      • What is that spec costing you Dave?

It's pretty much exactly what I'd be ordering (but in 5DR) if I had my time over.

Um you know, I didn't even ask LOL. I think the Victorian RRP for a 3dr DSG onroad with no options was um ~57? Sorry, I was a kid in a candy store, infact if they had my spec today I'd have paid more than RRP and not even realised hehe. But that's a good thing cos it means I've made the right choice

Thanks for that Lima. I've edited the first post to include the link to the specs PDF and to Ausmotive.com

            Cheers

I'd probably get that same spec as well, but possibly without leather and i'd add Camera (and maybe 5 door although 3 looks slightly better in the R).

Would probably get 18" wheels then replace them with some nice aftermarket 19", as i'm not a fan of those black wheels.

I was initially keen on Blue as well, i'd have to see it in the flesh. white could blend in a bit more with the other models but looks the business.

IMO without question, blue was THE R32 colour but it is not the Mk6 R colour after seeing it in person!

                • Surprising to see that in the specs the minimum fuel listed is 95 RON rather than the full 98..

What does that mean Dave? Is it the same as the promo pics or more like the R32 blue?

Without having the 2 cars side by side its hard but it seems to be darker and less metallic than the MK5 R32. Granted it's a cloudy day here in Melbourne, the blue just didn't grab me like it does every time I see a blue R32.

Of course, I could be on crack and they're exactly the same but my brain is colour blind and only recognises "tones"

Yeah I don't think they are the same and judging from all the pics i've seen it is darker and more of a flat colour. Still looks good i guess but CW is the best.

                        • Golf R looks better because it is new... you've seen the R32 for the past 5 years on the road... i'm not saying the Golf R is ugly or good or anything... just saying in a psychological sense... new things always seem better especially when you see it the first time.

But good luck with the car, i'm sure it is a blast.

Can't you get the 19" Rims in silver?

LOL - that is what I said some weeks ago but got shot down for it. The MkVI - be it the GTI or R looks better in CW.

Yes I'm pretty sure you can. They look good on blue but a bit weak on white IMO but not bad. The Detroits are great having the blackened highlights which really make it.
