  • Golf R Specifications and Prices

    Hi Everyone.

So, what everyone has been waiting for.... turns out even better than expected... only $9500 more than the equivalent base-spec GTI

    3 Door Manual $48,490
    3 Door DSG $50,990

    5 Door Manual $49,990
    5 Door DSG $52,490

    Electric glass sunroof $1,900
    RNS510 satellite navigation system $2,500
Dynaudio 300W premium audio system $1,300
    RNS510 with Dynaudio 300W premium audio $3,500
    Media Device Interface (MDI) $270
    Rear View Camera (RVC) $500
    Adaptive chassis control $1,500
    Vienna leather appointed upholstery $3,300
Micro fibre/leather racing style front seats $5,300
Electrically adjustable driver‘s seat (with 5 door & leather seats only, not recaros) $600
Talladega 19“ alloy wheels in SILVER $1,300
Talladega 19“ alloy wheels in BLACK $1,300
The New MY11 VW Bluetooth $550

Note, the MY11 VW Bluetooth option isn't listed in the current specifications, but I have been informed it will be available as an option for all MY11 built Golfs, including the R. It has all the advantages of the Skoda Kit & 'Premium' kit, but much more cost effective (basically makes all the existing Bluetooth options redundant).

All the above pricing are RRP prices only, and do not include the extensive list of items which make up the "On Road" or "Drive Away" costs (dealer delivery, luxury car tax, stamp duty, registration, Compulsory Third Party-insurance, Number Plates, etc). These items will vary based on dealer, state, your residence post code, your age & driving history, and the options you select.

    Edit:
The Official Golf R Mini-site is now up.
The Volkswagen.com.au Golf R page is available now too.
And availalble from there is the Australian Golf R Flyer and the Updated Australian Golf Specifications which now includes the Golf R.

Finally, I've created a Pricing Calculator Spreadsheet which is available here:
Golf R Price Calculator Spreadsheet Edit: Now updated for 2010 - 2011 financial year. And updated again on Aug 16 to account for rego changes in NSW on Aug 8
Please see this post for details on the calculator spreadsheet.

LOL ... thats going to hurt all of those who chose the GTI .... a much lesser car for what turns out to be not so much less of a price .... .... and not even taking all the std extra's the R has over the GTI into consideration.

Same spec GTI (ie Bi-Xenon 18" wheels etc) looks to be same price .....

Anybody brave enough to do a spec/price comparison ?

Now this is going to hurt those GTI buyers .....

High Level Spec / Price Comparison for the R vs GTI (5dr manual)

            GTI 5dr manual = $40490

Add std stuff on the R ....

            Paint $700
            Bi-Xenon $2000
            18" Wheels $1200
            Tinted rear glass $400

            GTI = $44790

            R Base price 5 dr manual $4990

            Difference = $5200

For which you get the following R "Upgrades" above GTI Spec

            Different seats std
            AWD
            188kw engine
            Parking Sensors F&R

.... So small a difference for what are particulary nice upgrades .... AWESOME ...

Paint is now only $500. But yeah, if you say that the front and rear PDC is worth $1000 (it used to be $800 for just rear, and really the only diff between F&R PDC and Park Assist is two additional sensors & software), effectively the difference is $4400 !!!!!

And yeah, $4400 gets you AWD, better engine, better brakes, better suspension, etc etc. Holy crap!

Of course people have forgotten that VW seems to have no issues discounting the GTI (on roads for nothing at the moment) . This may not be the case with the R .

I'd call it a MAJOR upgrade ... the Jacky seats are only good if you want your retinas scorched as you climb into the car .....

Agree, $38990 driveaway (before negotiation & corporate discount) for a 3dr manual Red GTI is a VERY good price ..... but its the same justification the 118TSI buyers had before the GTI came out .... for all its worh it now is merely a model in the Golf range and not King of the Hill anymore ....

                          Nice!

Was that new BT kit factory or dealer fit, the price isn't so bad and if its better than the other options might be worth it.
