Thats where they state to fit them, but for convenience, the A-pillar is where its at.

As you can clearer see what has been done as soon as you open the door.

I use to fit them in the boot, but the boss said "its not easily noticable & in most cases the boot is filled with crap & you have to remove it all just to check or fit a sticker"

Deny what problem? Has anyone taken their car in with a engine failure and been turned away by VW saying there isn't a problem or have VW each time replaced the engine or performed a repair?

Seeing as how VW have fixed every car with this problem, have released a software upgrade for cars that might be prone to this problem and have not covered up the problem I really fail to see how you can come to the conclusion that they "denied any problem".

The engineers in Germany are not mind readers, they can't fix a car after a call comes in from Australia about one failure and release a software update overnight. It wouldn't be until they have a number of failures with the same fault that they could really start work on the problem as it may be a one off failure that occurs in all cars. The problem needs to be investigated, engines need to be sent back to Germany and it takes time to find what is an obscure problem by going through available data.

Maybe the people who are unhappy with this approach should buy a Holden, Ford or Hyundai where they just throw parts at the car until it's fixed (or covered up until next time), I'd rather the Volkswagen approach where the problem is identified properly and a lasting fix put in place even if it takes longer to achieve.

Having had a manufacturer deny a fault on a car I've owned, this all sounds quite right. More often than not, denials are coming from dealerships rather than manufacturers and usually through ignoranace of the problem and a default stance of 'of course there isn't a problem'.

For my personal experience of a design fault in the clutch plate, I went to 3 different dealerships and told 3 different stories plus then a fourth story from the manufacturer. In the end there was never officially a fault but there was a clutch kit that could be put into cars of those who complained and the clutch was removed from production for the next model cycle.

So which manufacturer are you speaking of exactly, from your personal experience?

Subaru. I had an Impreza RS. The dealers, if you're interested were SVM Lindfield, Tom Kerr West Ryde and Paramatta Subaru. Oh and NEVER get a car from SVM - had other issues with them relating to pre-delivery and out-and-out lying.

Same with my previous car which was a tdi Beetle.
Had an annoying groaning sound which the dealership tried to tell me was 'normal' engine operation. What a crock. Took it back 14 times in 8 months. When they finally admitted the noise was not anything 'normal' (it occurred when releasing the clutch and accelerating), they made lame efforts here and there - telling me each time that it was fixed.
Now I am normally a patient and reasonable person, but after paying $33,000 for a new car and going back every month (sometimes twice in the same month), trying to resolve the issue, I wrote to head office. They handballed it back to the dealership who finally got serious. I took the head mechanic out (by this time the noise was extremely loud), and he spent time on it himself. Turned out to be some attachment to the solenoid - had to have it shipped out from Germany, but at least it was finally acknowledged and an attempt to fix it made.
This dealer wanted me to believe that whatever I was hearing was nothing to be concerned or annoyed by. They would have been happy if I had just accepted that and put up with it.

I'm not saying VW is on it's own here - I'm just saying it happens.

              • So, what does this sticker look like? Mine was done yesterday, but I can't see a new sticker on the A piller or in the boot. Must admit, I haven't checked the book, but still.

A little square silvery job - a bit bigger than a postage stamp.

When I picked my car up I checked the A pillar - it wasn't there. I went back to reception and asked where the campaign sticker was. It was then that they followed me outside and threw one in the boot.

(I commented that I thought the A pillar was the place for it and received a reply along the lines of "No, VW want us to put them next to the compliance plate")

                    • Mine was done yesterday. They put the sticker on the pillar inside the driver's door, AND filled in Campaign ID, date and stamp in my service log book...

                      • No stickers that I noticed on mine either on the driver's side door pillar or in the boot. I asked when I picked up the car two days ago whether the recall had carried out and the salesman said "I'm not sure, I'll find out and call you". A bit slack of them to not do it before delivery, or to not put the sticker on if they did.

Does anyone know if there's a selected range of VINs/build dates that the advisory applies to, and if so, what they are?

                        • Had mine done today. Sticker inside the drivers door pillar but no entry in the logbook. I did perceive a noticeable increase in low rev performance.
Maybe more fuel at lower revs to fix the "lean burn" problem. Will be interested to see any change in consumption levels.
                          Since I've had it I've averaged 6.9 litres/100kms over 10,000 ks.
Next week Im off on a road trip around Qld for 4 weeks (approx 5000ks) so will report back as I get progressive consumption figures.

I noticed after mine was done that the first gear hesitation appears less severe and the fuel consumption seem to be poorer of by about 0.2l/100km. anybody else noticed this?

I had sent ECU program to Bluefin and they observed that the latest calibration limits torque to 250nm. As such they have a 1.4TSI DSG to work on a solution to return their stage one to 300nm.

                            • So why did they ever cancel shell optimax 100 (forgot the full name)? I liked and used it! And whenever I went to get some it was always sold out. I thought it was successful judhing by avaiability when it came out.

                              • Subarus MY09 pre -2009 builds apparently had a engine life issue and what happens basically your engine goes and there is nothing you can do it about it. (I think the design flaw was that oil delivery causes a spun bearing. Now this never happened to my car, but being with what was a really good company, Subaru was aware of the problem, and if your engine copped this, you drove in to your stealership, they diagnosed the car in 5 mins - AND THEY DID NOT REPAIR IT!! THE CRATED IN A NEW MOTOR. Liiteraly!! A new motor came in a big crate, they sent a a big stamp on the old block so that its thrown out
