Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

They quoted me nearly $600 for 24th month service on a car that still hasn't reached 10,000K.

Had it done by local garage for half that (and he still ripped me off on the oil — $120 for 5 litres of Mobil 1 that I can have delivered to my door for $75, + he used the wrong one (VW505/502 spec instead of 504/507 which, given that I no longer drive as much as I used to, probably won't have any real adverse effect barring possibly on the DPF.)

Just wanted to update this thread with my experience - had a minor (~15,000km) service yesterday at Gerald Slaven Belconnen, ACT, and paid just over $250. Included a bottle of top-up oil. Very happy with the experience - no fuss at all.

Yep, a Golf GTI with a DSG gearbox, although the gearbox isn't touched until the 45,000km service.

I've had my GTI since March and turned over 3500km last night. (Yes I know as I only do about 1.5k's a day) My first service will be at 15000km or 12 months.

I had to take the car back to the dealer last week as the night before I was driving and the foot well lights kepts flashing ( I've got them set at 10% and they would go up to I think 20% or even 30%) they found nothing with the lights.

Service Manager said I might need to bring the car in soon for an oil change and the car isn't getting a change to warm the oil.

Anyone have an idea of the cost of a service here on the Gold Coast? I have family in Brisbane and thats where I purchased the car from as I go up there once a month...

Completed my 12 Month / 15,000KM service at Barloworld Glen Waverly. Paid $396.

They threw in a free bottle of windscreen washer fluid additive from Volkswagen.

My experience with Gerald Slaven has not been a great one - First, I was quoted $330 for a 15k service on my R only to have it done and wanted to charge me $380.....how does it automatically increase by $50??? Needless to say, after some argee bargee I ended up paying the $330. Also, I have been waiting since late November for them to replace a warped side skirt under warranty and it's still not done!

If it wasn't for a warranty claim, then I would have never taken it to a dealer....especially Gerald Slaven Belconnen!!!

Oh....almost forgot....when I picked my R up after service, it was pretty clear that someone had taken it for a joy ride as they changed my DCC setting to Sport when it was in Comfort on drop-off

                      NEVER AGAIN GERALD SLAVEN BELCONNEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bugger mate. When I did the ring around I was quoted at $350 from GS and $430 from Lennock. Ended up taking it to CVWC in belco $260 . Really nice service and friendly staff, def go there again.

I got a quote from Adam @ VA Garage in Southport, Gold Coast for $295 for 15,000km service on my 77TSi.

Is this service necessary for warranty issues?

I drive mainly 95% highway and can easily do my own oil + filter change for under $70 in oil + genuine VW filter. Reason I ask is the "wrench" sign on the MFD seems to note that the next service is 30,000km.

I think that's an assumption that they've taken your car for a joyride. Not trying to defend them, but after servicing to many VW's I doubt they have the interest still to take your car for a joyride. Setting the DCC switch isn't conclusive of that as well, what if they just needed to test all soft switches to ensure they are performing?

Just as much an assumption as yours I guess.....who's to say it wasn't a new employee who has yet to test drive one?

At the end of the day, they tried to rip me off and have been giving me the run around with a warranty claim. Why should I give them the benefit of the doubt given the “customer service” to date????

Even if it wasn't taken for a "joy ride", I still think the dealership stinks and that’s my whole point.

It might not mean anything but the after sales service I have received from Camberwell VW has been excellent. Superior to what I have received from Mercedes over the past 10 years.
They will probably be more expensive being based in Camberwell but might do a good job.
