Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 15,000km Service Cost from Each Dealer Outlined

I posted this in the MKV section, but I thought I would post this in the MK6 also as it would be extremely relevant to some of you.

My MKV is coming up for its first service so I thought I would ring around and see what prices I get off the bat from the various dealers for the 15,000km service. I assume these prices would translate roughly to the other services as well.

    $390 - Glen Waverley
    $363.70 - Campbellwell
    $368 - Essendon
    $380 - South Yarra
    $440 - Bayside/Barloworld ROFL
    $385 - Werribee
    $385 - Berwick
    $340 - Burwin

It really is luck of the drawer and thus pays to shop around. I booked mine in at Burwin as I also bought it from Burwin.

    Hope someone finds this interesting.

I'm booked for my 15,000km service with the boys at Burwin next week. I don't mind going further than I have to for good service. On the phone they sound great! They've offered a courtesy drop off and pick up from Knox City too. I still think $340 is a bit rich for what is basically an oil+filter change though.

And yeah - I also laughed at Barloworld when I spoke to them on the phone...

well done on the pricing - i would really love to know why these services differ in prices! Fixed time, fixed parts, where are they adding the fat?

In the USA, the first 3 15 KM services are included in the price of the car. They are essentially just oil and filter changes, so each is worth about $50 US.

I asked the Canberra volkswagon centre here who said the 15K service was $250 give or take.

meawhile, my partner has just been quoted $500 for a $2-300 service, and $800 to diagnose dirty fuel in his bike. the "work" altogether took 3 weeks in which we had to register a 3rd bike because he wasn't given a courtesy vehicle. Some workshops are just low down tightarse bastards (i should mention this is the same workshop where he bought the bike brand new to start with, think they'd be a little friendlier wouldn't you?)

Maybe you could remind the dealer of this (that you purchased the car through them) when you book it in..... hinting for a discount.... They can only say No - it might be worth a try!

I just did the call around for Brisbane as i will be due for my 15k in the next month.

                Highway (south) $330
                Norris (north) $380
                Austral (centre) $385

I bought my car from Highway and despite having to remind them of certain promises a few times they looked after me pretty well. Hopeful the rest of the service will be good as well.

This will be an interesting exercise when mine falls due.... only at 2450 at present.....

The 3 dealers closest to me are ALL owned by the same franchise.....
Guess I can ring north and south as well to check pricing....

Different locations (different customers etc), different costs (rent etc), different services (car washes, loan cars, waiting rooms, courtesy buses all don't pay for themselves), different businesses (different hourly rates) and so forth.

I'd rather pay a price that is based on local factors than some fixed price and subsidise other locations. The differences in costs between different dealers is bugger all at the end of the day.

Yeah, I've heard of people driving to Gelong to get their car serviced to save $40

would cost half that in fuel not taking into consideration any value put on the time.

I go to the closest dealer to the house, where i also bought from, and they look after me.

I got mine booked at Chatswood for 430! Don't think that is a very good price, but just bcoz I work near the place it is easy for me to drop the car and pick. Does any one have any idea how much it will cost when services with Sydney metro dealers? Mine is a118 TSI, 15K service.
