Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Lot of chatter on here about the 15k service. Curious Anyone shown up with a car 12 months since new, but a lot less kilometres than 15,000? ie. 1 year old car and 8000km?

    Did they replace the oil?

    I only ask as there is some conjecture about changing the first batch of oil too early. Advice from techs at VW suggest that it is strongly recommened to leave the first change for a minimum 15,000km After that you can change as much as you want.

      You can change the oil the first day you bring your new car home and then every day if you like and it won't affect anything. The engine will still run in at the same time.

      But to answer your question; it's either the time or km which ever comes first. I've changed the oil in all our VW's after first 1,000km and none of them uses the oil between the oil changes.

      on the side note;
      Many T5 auto owners have the first hand experience with oil change/service interval not being suiatable, when they've paid close to $10,000 or even more for the a/t repair, just because they got misled by the VW and trusted their "filled for life (Lifetime fill)" statement.
