Do you actually use the DSG, or is it always in automatic mode?

You'd be surprised how many Rs I see here in the so-called overtaking lane hovering 20kms under the speed limit on the freeway or taking their merry old time to get "out of the blocks" when the traffic light turns green. GREEN means "GO" folks...! I will not lower myself to type casting, but boy some of those drivers should just drive a Camry or something...
Perth has quiet a large comunity of people who buy the R for prestige rather then for its enjoyment/performance.

    • always in D mode - lazy as I am doing 95% city driving. Only when I want to overtake, or need a sudden rush of turbo boost to my head do I use the paddle shifts. Plus it helps get 580km to a tank in the city!

When I was looking at VW before purchasing I was at Barloworld at Glen Waverly and the guy there was even worse. I'm a VW fan because of their cars, an perhaps the sales and service guys are too, but sometimes they come across as arrogant, which is a shame. Not sure if anyone else has observed that or not. At least Mark at Burwin is a nice person to deal with.
Barloworld Glen is terrible, mum was looking for a new car and asked to enquire about a golf r they had in stock, the salesman had to read everything of a piece of paper and his English wasn't the best.... He knew I wanted to test drive it and not mum and didn't allows us to take the car saying the manager didn't want to put any kilometers on it

        Never going back there

We'll be all gathering at the Garage Cafe this Friday for our monthly meet up so if you are able to find time pop in and meet some of the guys. Usually get quite alot of R's, GTI's and the odd Skoda turning up.

                        Yes

It is not VW related and has been in planning for some time now

                          • One thing this thread is missing is the very important factor of torque and power on the process

The turbo enhanced vehicles (diesel and petrol) appear, by logic, more capable of dealing with the misbehaviour of the DSG

Just an observation I'm throwing out there

As opposed to a non-turbocharged Mk6, you mean?

Seriously though, the 6-speed DSG does seem to have fewer issues. That's the gearbox they fit to the *cough* ballsier *cough* Golfs, with > 250Nm.

Wasn't actually thinking about the 6 speed vs 7 speed
