    Self-lowering Seat

I'm not heavy by any means (quite the opposite in fact), but I've confirmed that my seat lowers itself slowly over a period of weeks or months. Anybody else had this trouble? I'd like to avoid a trip to the dealer for a warranty claim should it be a simple fix, so helpful advice welcomed.

I'm heavy-er (110kg) and I'm not finding my seat lowering. Though I have the GTD/GTI seats so not sure if this changes anything.

Ditto..pushing 105 these days and seats are fine...(except they are starting to fray a little n the edges.)
I have the sports package in my TDI so maybe the sports seats fare better?

I had my first MkVI for 8 months and didn't have a problem with the seat either, so it will probably end up in the VW workshop for a day.

            Creaking Lumber support in GTI

I have searched the forum and think I may have unearthed a unique flaw in my one month old GTI. The seat creaks when pulling away from junctions and I reckon it is linked to the lumber support. Has anyone else experienced this and if so do they have a solution as I am loathe to take it to a dealer for it to come back with several new flaws? My first mark V GTI had the same issue back in 2006 but the mkVi seats are a new design.

If you're sure it's the lumbar support, then you're the first person I recall reporting that on a MK6. There is the usual "door seals", "inner door rattles", and "b pillar" rattles/creaks, but not thus far the lumbar support.

The MK6 seats aren't really a new design. Apart from the head restraint, they're practically identical my 2008 GTI.

The mechanism for adjusting the lumbar has changed - now a lever instead of a dial and they feel firmer but that may just be the passage of time since I last sat in a mark v and comparing it with my wife's rs wagon seats.

I think I will live with it and hope it disappears as the thought of the seats being hauled apart fills me with dread based on past experiences.

It's a lever? When did that happen?

I don't have a MK6 GTI, I've got a MY11 Golf R with leather seats, and it still has the "dial" (really a 4-way round cursor) that the MKV GTI's and R32 did. As per this pic:

I've got a mk6 GTI with leather seats and they come with an electric lumbar support within the seat. The recline function is still controlled by the knob whilst the lever is used for adjusting the seat height.

Corey, interesting one actually. When i was shopping for my GTI, i'm 100% sure i sat in MY11 models with fabric seats and electronically adjustable lumbar support just like your picture. No doubt in my mind. My car however has the manual lever. I asked the salesman and he had no idea. I checked the yard cars myself and yep... identical models, two months older, electric lumbar. Maybe this slipped past as a change from MY11 to MY11.5

I have only ever seen manual lever controlled lumbar support on mk6 gtis with cloth and it is those that have that set up who need to check for creaking when pushing back in their seats or when pulling away from a stand still.

My 103TDI with sports pack also has lever-controlled lumbar support. I'll let you know if I can make it creak.

Need help convincing wife to buy GTi (seat issues)

                              Hi Guys,

After a protracted car buying search it has finally come down to a second-hand Subaru WRX or a new Mk VI GTi. After running the numbers the GTi is only marginally dearer to own, even including the larger purchase price. The GTi is dollar for dollar a far better, more complete vehicle. The WRX is surprisingly smooth and quiet but its interior is average, at best.

So, GTi it is, except we went and test drove one and my wife found the cloth seats to be very uncomfortable in the upper body seat bolstering. She sat in a stationary GTi with leather and said it felt better. I'm not convinced $3300 is a fair price for leather and have concerns about it aging, and could feel no difference, so I'm lobbying for the cloth seating. As an aside the option for leather may not exist as we are trying to get the drive away pricing deal and there is limited stock and combination of options.

So, getting to the point of my post, does the bolstering soften up considerably or has anyone had an upholsterer re-contour the seats? If so, how did they turn out. She is very concerned about altering the seats and ending up with cosmetic blemishes on the seats. I'm sure a competent auto-upholsterer would be able to make the changes look factory.

TLDR: Anyone had their cloth GTi seats re-contoured? How did it turn out?

                              Thanks for reading,
