      bottle opener.... again

      Hi all,

Bought a new 118TSI two weeks ago from WA dealership and it was missing the bottle opener. Emailed them and they promised to post one out. It didn't come. So when I wrote a letter to the dealer principal to complain about the dirty interior and exterior of the car, I also mentioned the bleeping bottle opener.

Today I received an empty damaged letter from the dealership that had a hole in one corner. I guess the bottle opener was supposed to be in it. Now whether this is just an Aust. Post stuff-up or otherwise, I'll never know... but the fact that my complaint wasn't actually acknowledged with a letter was a little annoying.

They had also offered me floor mats after I mentioned that Dermot in Wangara would give me some... no news from them on that front either.

So I guess I've had enough of my local dealership here in WA and will probably deal with Wangara VW in future...and my girlfriend is thinking of buying a new polo....

This has not been the happy experience that one expects from buying a new car.

Anyway, as to the bottle-opener: Just bought one on Ebay for $15 (QLD seller). Hopefully that will make it through the post intact.

Could this be a common practice amongst VW dealers?

I noticed my bottle opener was missing on delivery - and mentioned it.

The response was "Oh yeah, we're a bit short of those at the moment. Waiting on a delivery."

That was December 2009. Still waiting on that delivery apparently, as I haven't received mine.

Aren't these delivered WITH the car when they hit the docks?

Shame that a $5 piece of kit has tarnished a $40K purchase for you though.

The bottle opener is an optional accessory are they not?

I've never heard of them being standard kit. Correct me if I'm wrong so I can drive down to VW and get mine!

I'd suggest you start the engine.

Ive seen that seller. He has been listing them for a while now and sold heaps.

I decided to order one just to see what the go is because they are way cheaper than what VW charge. The one I received was very slightly soiled. Im betting the guy works for a dealer and has been pocketing them from new cars to sell on ebay! So people that are buying them are probably just buying their own ones back hehe

Picked up my Golf earlier this week - dealer made a point of giving me my bottle opener (before I asked or checked the car)... I mentioned that people in the forums are getting cars without bottle openers and his reply was that they do have to be bought in separately by the dealer...

The dealer made a follow up call today to ask if I had any questions and to make sure I'm happy...

                  Regards,
                  - Anthony.

Thought that might be the case...

I rang Aust Post distribution centre today about the damaged letter. They said it would have got caught in the automated sorting gizmos and should not have been put in the standard evelope. They log all such lost items andadvised me to call again next week as it may turn up.

That means I may end up with two bottle openers.... Now that's crazy.

Ended up with 2 bottle openers .The dealer gave me one to slide in the bottle holder in the centre consol and there was also one in a pocket of the leather/vinyl service book cover .

                      Cheers

I am writting a letter, this is unacceptable!!!!! when I buy a $65k car i want my bottle opener....this is outright discrimination...its an outrage..

That they drink metho and aren't particularly attractive, that's my guess.

most bottle openers nowadays are of the moulded aluminium claw design that fits on your key ring, the vw bottle opener is a relic from 1950s design.
