I wonder why they put a cheap looking plastic sheath and logo on the bottle opener.
The old solid brushed stainless steel version from the MkV GTI looked much more chunky and classically designed IMHO... And I would've thought it cost less to produce also.
FYI, I only used my bottle opener to actually open a bottle on 2 or 3 occasions during my 4 years of MkV ownership..Last edited by Kirium; 01-04-2010, 04:16 PM.

The plastic one still has metal inserts where it grips under the lid of the bottle, so its going to be still strong enough to open most bottles.. The full stainless steel one stands out a bit with the black console, they need a matt black full stainless steel opener..that would be sweet.MKV GTI

I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. I looked up Maverick's site and there's no information re a retro fit of a bottle opener! I know I should've done a thread search first though...tornado red GTI MkVI, 5dr, DSG, Sat Nav, RVC, MDI.

The Americans are replacing theirs with the style that we get standard here in Australia.
And it's a big job requiring you to remove the gear stick knob, surrounds, the whole console and so on.website: www.my-gti.com

I have both and the old one just looks more solid and it is the one I use in the bottle slot. Had been told changed simply because of pricing - therefore new one must be cheaper for VW.Mark 7.5 2018 White Golf R with Driver Assist & Dynaudio packages.
