You should have made the offer 6 weeks ago. haha. So tempting if mine wasn't so close..
But speaking to my dealer, I got that impression too. Evidenced by the fact that went I walked in for a test drive, the DSG was booked out all day.... the manual, free to test drive with no one awaiting my return..

If anyone wants to put their hand up for this Manual we can ship it over!
What Colour and what options does it have? I couldn't find it on your website..

I noticed that there seemed to be quite a few GTIs in stock listed on carsales. It's kind of annoying, as back in January I couldn't find a GTI anywhere which was in my fairly basic spec. The only thing I really wanted was the Detroits. Now I'm left waiting for mine to be shipped over still.

Thankfully it's only another 2 months to wait... it better be worth it!

I am not convinced on that logic... why would a person select "Brand New Cars in Stock", contact a dealer and then be prepared to wait 6 months for a car - lol The intent, surely, when checking that selection and searching on a national site is that I don't want to wait

I have to say though the prices being quoted are rather high. So, perhaps they are smart. They are putting their product out their for a customer base who doesn't want to wait.

What you are suggesting (i think) is similar to the bait and switch. That is technically illegal in NSW.
but i found out that some different priced GTI with same photos....

are the standard GTI been built first then come back to start building the customer's car?

The more options added to a car the longer production usually takes. The allocation of a build slot is dependant on all the required parts being available at one time. The fewer the options the better the chance the car has of securing a quicker production slot.

It really is a game of odds. At any given time the production slot is based on the availability of all parts required, so again, like i said, reducing the number of parts required increases the chance of production.

Having said that, comprimising on the clients needs or wants is not always an option, so some people although upset at the duration of the wait times, are still prepared to do so.

Thank you Dermot, i just thought for such a big manufactory like VW, they should have their optional parts in stock and prepared for the overwhelming demand from their past experiences.

Volkswagen operates no different to any other manufacturer. They generally don't carry any parts at all, as the cost is prohibitive. Volkswagen would operate, just the same as a manufacturer in any industry using what is called a JIT (Just In Time) production system. The parts are delivered when required only. This ensures fresh, modern, recently made parts.

The minor downside is that it is dependant on what is available to them, and the manufactures of those parts would be largely dependant on analysing market trends and past sales history to gauge requirements.

If the USA and Europe are mass ordering plain GTI's then it stands to reason that car part makers will be manufacturing large quantities of parts to suit those orders. And while they will also manufacture addition parts to suit heavily specced cars, if a sudden over demand request for those parts comes in, then there will be a delay.

It is called supply chain management, and it is a very complicated science. Sit tight, enjoy the ride, and the day your new GTI is delivered the wait will be long forgotten!

Yep - it's no different from a supermarket or any other type of store. Items in stock, especially not on the shelves, are a financial liability, and you have to pay for the storage of that financial liability!

Car dealers will often use 'stock photos' so that they dont' have to pay someone to go take multiple photos which to a regular person don't look any different!

Thank you again, Dermot, i am agree all of yours above, it is true for this theory, but when the reality come to you, then the thinking will be difference, lol.

I just spoke with my father in HK, The GTI nearly equipped full options and, with auto folding mirror!(or it might be full optioned as standard, point me if i was wrong) the price is just around 310,000 HK Dollar, covert to AUS, only 46000 sth.!!

anyway, this is Australia, high import tariff....
