The problem is not actually the spacy, I could fit three more I-Pods in there. The problem is the layout of the cable. if the cable had an L type connector on BOTH ends instead of just one then that would solve it.
I guess no point complaining though, it is what it is...
I usually have the arm rest up two notches so should be ok.
Do you have a picture of what it looks like in the glovebox?
It doesn't look like anything as you can't see it. The cable is the exact length you require (you push the rest into a cavity behind the glovebox) and whatever you're using in there (memory stick, hard drive or icrud/iturd) can be mounted in a pro clip style holder on the roof of the glovebox or below the manual under there. Doesn't take up any space, it's secure from moving around (important if a usb hard drive), has protection from the elements when parked and is cooled when the car is turned on.
You can also lock the glovebox and if the unit is mounted up high it wouldn't be noticed unless you had a good look.
The problem is the cable gets bent each time you close the lid.
You may have it up two notches "so it's not a problem" but everytime you open the lid you have you to close it all the way down before you can lift it up.
So the cable still suffers from the same problems.
What if you put the iPod in the other way around with the cable at the bottom? Sounds like I should mod the cable.
I'm going to leave mine in there all the time so prob doesn't matter (too much trouble using the iPhone as you have to connect it everytime you get out of the car).
hey maverick, any links/instructions on how to set up the stock system properly?
thanks in advance
Make sure the coding is correct for the head unit and spend some time adjusting the various settings, doesn't take long and I have no problems at all with the sound of out my system (RNS 510 with the factory amp and 10 speakers).

Is 10 speakers stock or is it 8?
I thought i saw on my order form that i have the RCD 510 but i thought the 310 was standard?

The MDI is fine and sounds best with AUX level on LOW.
I was also referring to the MK5 system in general that's poor and doesn't live up to the rest of the car, but have aftermarket Dyn's and a few Arc Mini's so not really a problem now.
