  • I'm having a thinking out loud moment. Is it possible that if dsg finds itself caught between gears because it's next change prediction doesn't match a sudden change in throttle response? Could it be it then doesn't allow a gear selection due to high revs and doesn't want to engage a gear with such high revs for self conservation.
I know my thread is a little clumsy and simple but very interested in the subject as my car on order has dsg.

It's possible! However my DSG 'neutral' incidents were all at low revs!

Now thats a bugger! Does the issue make you think twice before merging or punting it when there is a gap in the traffic when turning into a road? Would make me think twice and nervous!!

Sometimes, though it has never occurred from a standing start, only low kms, low rpms and when you accelerate out it misses a gear, revs rise, you then back off the accelerator, go again and its fine! For me its like when you miss a gear in a manual.

I had it serviced 2000kms ago, they reset the DSG and its only occurred once since, will keep monitoring it.

When you say back off the accelerator, is it a quick lift then straight on the pedal again or do you wait for the revs to die down first. I figure the more I know how to react to it the better. Even better would be that it never happens of course.

Has it occurred more than just the once since your 2k service?

Yes and Yes! The back off is as you described, foot off pedal then back on and it's in gear and drives off fine. Occurred 4 times in total 3 before the 7.5K service and once afterwards, only in the low speed situations.

One other thing I've noticed in my morning mad dash in front of traffic, is that in 'D' mode there is a slight hesitation, enough to make you check your pants and in manual mode the hesitation is almost non existent. So for future mad dashes in front of large trucks on Leach Highway I keep it in manual

Hi all has anyone experienced clutch shudder one acceleration, done about 30,000 k's, the local dealer has committed to replacing it, so all good in that area, is it going to be an on going problem, P.S love the car.

                        • yOU'RE LUCKY! mINE HAS BEEN BACK 3X FOR THE SHUDDER AND EACH TIME THEY SAY THE SIFTWARE UPDATE HAS (oops.. caps) fixed the problem.

Latest update was Wed last week. It shuddered Friday. Now it's shuddering even more and didn't change down to 1st when stopped on an incline!

Needless to say, I'm starting to get annoyed with my Golf!

                          • I so nearly went DSG for the first time and now am so glad that I didn't when reading stuff like this. I don't see any problems with the manual gearboxes on this forum. Are there any?

When you say in "'D' mode there is a slight hesitation", are you talking about when taking off from a standstill?

If you notice, in D your idle revs are ~800. In M your idle revs are ~1300. That's the diff
The clutches engage quicker cause you're already revving higher in M.
