the only issue I have had in 7,000ks was it not going into gear and revving freely for a second, it only happened the other week but it quickly went back into gear.
the problem I find with the DSG box is when your coming to a set of lights, and they are red for example - your almost about to stop, and they go green.. its almost a bit hesitant to take off again or feels like its unsure what to do.
so I either try to slow down way before the lights, or come to a complete stop and take off in 1st.
not a major issue but just something you have to work around - I will get them to see if a software upgrade is available on my 7,500 service as it was a bit scary when it didnt go into gear (lucky no one was behind me)

Seriously some of you guys are petty sometimes. All input is welcome. However, if you guys can't figure out that input from IDENTICAL CARS AND GEARBOXES is more relevant for specific issues then...
Not everyone has their car in their signature or name. Like ozgti doesn't drive a GTI, he drives a 118TSI and therefore has a 7sp DSG. Not everyone is expected to know what everyone's car is. All I was doing was connecting disparate posts together to show "current advice for the specific model".
Again, as I said in my previous post, this DOES NOT MEAN that I'm saying the "one fix fits all". Whilst dave_r's first step would be to get the DSG software updated to fix this known issue on the R, yes, there is a chance that he could have something else wrong and the mechatronics may need to be replaced.

I don't know how is everyone's DSG behaving because obviously, I don't see your car but our DSG in the 2.0L TDI GolfV has sometimes a bit of hesitation too. It's nothing wrong with that, it is the automated manual and it's quite normal, which explain to me why the dealers sometimes ignore what the owner of the car is complaining about.
Well, I don't feel 100% every day too, do you?.Last edited by Transporter; 11-05-2011, 09:30 AM.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

I'm surprised that Audi didn't focus on addressing the hesitation at launch issue, considering the cost of some of the cars that their new 7sp wet clutch DSG goes into (as well as the Tiguans and Transporters on the VW side). It's supposedly also very closely related to the Porsche PDK (though the PDK is made by another company).

I think driving style is a contributing factor as well. If you go off/on/off the accelerator quickly it can confuse the gearbox. The DSG doesn't have a telepathic module fitted so it tries its best to predict from acc & brake inputs what the drivers intentions are. It's an inherent limitation of the technology that it has to have the correct gear selected on on the other shaft before it can change gear and needs to engage a clutch to start moving. In all other respects it's a great solution and walks all over a conventional auto.Last edited by prise; 13-05-2011, 07:22 PM.2018 Tiguan 110TSI Comfortline + DAP

The more I drive the DGS, the more I like the thing. I am truely loving the drive now that I've gotten used to the harsh(ish) ride with the 18's and and the sports suspension. We've even nicknamed the thing the 'rollerskate' as it reminds us of those heady youthful days when we all had 'skates and turned sharply/easily.
What I really like is seeing the lights ahead change to red, and slipping the box from 'd' to 's' and having it change down gears at the right point so that I don't have to do more than feather the brake pedal.
Oh, and the times I forget to slip it back to 'd' when taking off... the sound is awesome.Candy White Golf GTI Adidas with Park Assist and Reversing Camera

Mines going back in for rattle when in neutral and a shudder in 1/2.
And Corey, just because one car was fixed by the reflash doesn't mean all will be. Like I said, mine was reflashed by the dealer, yet it still happens....................

Aah cool, just double checking as there are about 12 different issues that people speak of in this thread
With the rattle and shudder, is the rattle in neutral also less obvious now, or just the shudder in 1st and 2nd? Kinda sounds weird having a software fix for a rattle!
