I think he might be on his own considering the age...He may have a case using mileage and if the vehicle was under recall but never got the dsg oil changed.

My car was one year out of warranty with 90000 km when it needed a clutch pack... VW covered 100% parts and 30 labour. If he's done the all the required services at the dealership, I think VW will help.

      • So my wife's 2012 90TSI with the 7spd DSG (DQ200), which we don't own anymore but is still within the family, has just had a transmission oil leak and reportedly mechatronics failure. I had the clutch packs replaced under warranty in 2015 and was told during the DQ200 mechatronics recall that our car wasn't affected. So I called the dealer today to say clearly it was and asked them what they / VW Aus could do and they said they'll request a goodwill repair from VW Australia, pending their own diagnostic tests. So hopefully it gets covered at least partially or completely.

        • DSG Clunk

          Hey guys.

So as the title suggests my dsg is clunking.

I only bought the car last week but got rwc today and mechanic said he was suss on the dsg.

Basically when stopping and selecting reverse it clunks a few times then goes to reverse. And similar when going reverse to drive after reversing..

Could this be a bad gearbox or mechatronic unit I've read about?

Seems to shift on when driving but does get to 6th at about 60km and is a little hesitant at starting off.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose would be most appreciated.

          Its a 2010 GTD.

          Cheers

          • Perform a DSG reset via VCDS and see how it goes from there.

In case anybody is interested, VW Aus covered the mechatronic replacement free of charge (including labour) - so very pleased with the outcome.

                • Very nice. VW seems to be handling this issue alot nicer these days.

                  • Dsg... Again

hey guys/girls. Have a 2010 GTD, DSG, reasonably sure the mechatronic unit is stuffed.

When changing from park to R / D she is a little clunky and had it flash up D 1 2 3 4 etc the other night.

Have a vcds from ross-tech so did the basic settings reset for the dsg however doesnt seem to have improved it at all.

No errors showing since reset / hasn't flashed up again since.

It felt like it was in neutral / wouldnt engage reverse when the gear indicator was flashing on the dash.

Long story short - best place to have it replaced / confirmed that it is the mech unit?

Am aware the dsg7 has recalls and the dsg6 has 10 year warranty in usa but not here.

Any suggestions would be awesome! Cheers

                    • I've read that my13 and later mk6 had 5 year warranty on dsg. I believe that you need to do a dsg adaption as opposed to a reset.

                      • Adaptions are unlikely to help - that's to (re)learn clutch clamping pressures etc. The issues described sound like mechatronic problems.

I'd be taking it to a VW dealer. Depending on the service history of the car (how comprehensive it is, where all the work was performed), it may be possible to request at least a partial goodwill claim with VWA. But you won't know until you speak to a dealer about it.

Failing that, a VW specialist independent (ref Recommended Repairers and Parts Suppliers) should be able to source you a mechatronic and fit it.

                        • I've got a weird screech when the DSG shifts in my passat. Am wondering if anyone with a Golf has similar issues? DSG screech?

                          • Failed clutch

                            Hey guys.

Local vw stealer have advised my dsg clutch needs replacing. I was told it was the mechatronic unit however they said clutch. If not clutch whole gearbox.

                            130k on it mk6 gtd.

Curious can I get second hand box?

I can get one from a mk6 tdi 103tdi with 60k with clutch and mechatronic unit for alot less.

                            Vw want 3k clutch fitted
                            10k gearbox fitted

I can get second hand for $1200 for the lot from a friend with rear end write off.

                            Doable?

                            • How old is your mk6? Did VW agree to cover some of the cost? Who said clutch and who said mechatronic?

If you need a mechanic to get anything done cheaper than Cricks, you can use Northern Volks at Warana.

Yeah I've used them before for my Scirocco R - forgot about them to be honest.

2010 GTD, 130k on clock. Had 60k and 120k gearbox services done but "oil is black".

Two different mechanics at VW - they rang their specialist support team in Sydney who advised clutch/gearbox.

Symptoms are clunk when going between park > reverse and back + park to D, D > R etc flashing PRDS lights

I am awaiting on a response to see if VW Goodwill will come to the party and replace the box - could be a few days before I hear back.

If not I think I'll get the second hand box, get northern volks to fit and sell the bloody thing
