There is a lot more to a phone and features like true multi-tasking, not being locked in to one provider who locks everything down, being forced to use itunes, no flash support, no expansion of memory, no user replaceable parts like batteries, an open operating system that others can use, variety of different hardware types and so on and so forth are all factors that should be looked at not just buying an iturd and joining the other sheep.website: www.my-gti.com

Seems poor old sharkablue fired up this thread to seek info about BT options with a iPhone 4 and BT in a new VW. He is not really getting much help. Just turning into another pissing match. I would offer to help but I only have access to an iPhone to which I am about to add ios4. But I do not have a BT equipped Golf 6. Hopefully someone else will pop up soon who has both ios4 and BT in a VW who can report back something useful for you.Golf Mk6 118 TSI DSG |APR Stage I ECU Upgrade | HEX-USB+CAN

Some good points there so will be considering all the options out there next time i'm due for a phone.
Jailbreaking helps unlock a lot of the functionality, and a fair bit of development behind it. Amazing that they are able to keep it fairly simple as well.. (compared to the old days when i was customising HTC's with Windows OS).
Whatever phone you get they are boring after a while once the novelty has worn off. At least a lot of the games and apps keep you amused a bit on the iphones (but wouldn't buy any).

I offered him the advice which was not to do the OS4 update till apple come out with a fix for the bluetooth issue. 3G and 3GS work perfectly fine with the VW Skoda kit.
Anyway best thing to do is wait and select a phone and BT kit you know work together.Last edited by G-rig; 23-06-2010, 09:40 PM.

I found this user here with a MK6 GTI with the VW Kit installed and it apparently works fine?
Print Page - iPhone 4.0 software fiscon issues
Can someone with an iPhone and Bluetooth in their MK6 Please confirm if you have issues with the new iOS4 update?
As I said I dont want to shell out $1500 for a bluetooth setup that does not work with my current phone.MK6 GTI 3 Door - Candy White - DSG - Sunroof - 18" Detroit - ACC - PA - RC - MDI - BT - RNS510.

I've updated to OS4 and have a Kufatec bluetooth setup with no issues at all. It also worked fine on the previous version of iphone OS - no difference. The Kufatec bluetooth setup was put in by my dealer as he said it was better than the Advanced bluetooth from VW. I only ordered the standard bluetooth, so pretty happy with what I ended up with.MY10 Golf GTI - Candy White - DSG - 18" Detroits - Leather

I found some some links on the NEW MK11 9W7 Bluetooth kit here:
How soon before we are able to purchase the 9W7 Bluetooth upgrade and who will have it first?

The Bluetooth debate comes to an end! Hello 9W7! - TDIClub Forums
It seems the brand new Bluetooth setup is actually just as good, if not better then the 'Skoda Kit' (aka: 1Z0035 729 E).
I have asked my dealer if they could order and install this one for me, and they said they could not. However they were happy to order and install the Skoda kit for $1500.
Maverick after reading the threads I have posted regarding the new Bluetooth kit, what are your thoughts?
I dont know how the america and canada works, but all the people with the new 9W7 kit are they all have the sat nav installed and NO RCD 510's.
My GTI is coming with the stock standard RCD 510 not the RNS.
Maverick are you able to shed some light on this after reading those posts? because if this new kit is just as good as the Skoda kit, I may well ask Volkspower to order it in and install it? since my dealer said it cant be done?MK6 GTI 3 Door - Candy White - DSG - Sunroof - 18" Detroit - ACC - PA - RC - MDI - BT - RNS510.

Here is a quick summary which may help:
- 'Skoda Kit'
- This is known as: 9W3 kit or sometimes VW 729
- Part Number: 1Z0 035 729 E ('E' is the latest revision of this unit, firmware is from November 2009)
- 'MK11 Kit'
- This is known as: 9W7 kit
- Park Number: 7P6 035 730 C
From what I have read up the new 9W7 seems to replace the skoda kit! (9W3)
History:
- 9W2 = AD2P Steaming, no built in phonebook (this unit is quite old from what I gather)
- 9W3 = NO AD2P steaming, but built in phonebook (this is the skoda kit)
- 9W7 *new* = AD2P streaming AND built in phonebook (this is the new MK11 kit) This also has a upgraded Voice Recognition system which apparently works better!!!
I have got this information from those threads I have posted. Coreying and Maverick you both seem to know quite alot about VW Parts and alike, can you please confirm this information? As we made need a new thread regarding my findings here.
However none of them can confirm if the RDS510 has the built in phonebook via the 9W3 (skoda kit) or the 9W7 (MK11 kit). They are all referring to the RNS510. And if you read in the Audio section of this forum, it is the same story, all these comparisons are done with RNS510's!
So I was wondering if someone, and im guessing Maverick would know best, does the skoda kit and this new kit even work fully with the RDS510? or do you need the RNS510?Last edited by sharkablue; 23-06-2010, 11:03 PM.MK6 GTI 3 Door - Candy White - DSG - Sunroof - 18" Detroit - ACC - PA - RC - MDI - BT - RNS510.

I thought the new Bluetooth kit was called 9ZB not 9W7 - what's the difference?

Sharkablue if you're car is already on the way and the deler cannot fit the MY11 (9ZB) bluetooth then i'd scratch that one from your list.
Still not enough info out on it yet.
Apparently the later rev Skoda kits work with iOS4 so i'd try and do a bit more research on it and get the latest version.

Thanks for the heads up G-Rig.
I know my dealer would not install the newer kit for MK11, however I could always get a VW 3rd party to do it, like Volkspower or something.
I noticed the same thing to, the model number that has been quoted on here (9ZB), is not the same part that the rest of the world is talking about (9W7).
Im not sure if it is just for America (however I think one of the links I posted was for the UK?).
If anyone has any information about this newer kit, please let us know.
I have emailed Volkspower to find out if they can order it.MK6 GTI 3 Door - Candy White - DSG - Sunroof - 18" Detroit - ACC - PA - RC - MDI - BT - RNS510.

Just to update everyone, I have emailed the guy on Ebay which sells the Skoda kits (1Z0 035 729 E) . His English was not the best, however he pretty much confirmed that he tested a 3GS running iOS4 and it works fine.
If we can get Maverick or someone to help confirm what this new kit is all about (7P6 035 730 C) that would be great too. As it maybe cheaper and does everything the Skoda kit does.MK6 GTI 3 Door - Candy White - DSG - Sunroof - 18" Detroit - ACC - PA - RC - MDI - BT - RNS510.
