    LOL....

VW Group have a perfectly good solution in the Skoda kit - fully integrated, voice control, works with every BT phone.

The iPhone is one of MANY current gen phones that doesn't do RSAP.

And are you seriously suggesting that people hack their $1000 phones just to get it to work with a Bluetooth system?

The % of phones that support RSAP is by far in the majority, and it is not increasing particularly rapidly. Unless you have some industry evidence and proof that is not available to the rest of us?

    But we should blame Apple...

    Riiiiight....

The cheap kit *is* rubbish, particularly when you see how much $ they ask for it. It does not integrate with the car properly (try pressing the phone button on an RNS510 in a car with the cheap kit installed). It's not bollocks, it's fact.

So now, to get around the fact that people want a BlueTooth kit that integrates, does voice control, etc, but works with the most popular phones on the market, they bring out this horrible stick on dash thing...

But it's all Apple's fault, right?

This is the one single area that REALLY craps me about VW.

Why on earth have all the buttons and controls, and THEN have to pay extra to get the to work and not have stupid non functioning buttons . . . . ridiculous.

Not enough to not buy the GTI , but struth , how freakin annoying

I believe my Dealer has provided a decent compromise, as its what they use in their cars . . . time will tell

Swallowtail, I don't have all the answers for you. I don't make decisions for VW, nor do I build the cars. I just maintain them, and fit accessories for customers who occasionally may not have done all their research.

As a dealership, we have been most flexible with those who may have ticked option boxes that may not have been suitable for them. Given the sheer simplicity of installing the VW/Nokia kit, it's easily removable and can be moved onto another car, and other avenues are explored. Others use the process as an excuse to upgrade their phone anyway.

People jailbreak Iphones for all sorts of reasons. The limited Bluetooth capabilitied being one of them.

The Skoda kit looks like a bit of a ball-ache to install. Scotch-locks and crimp joints? No thanks.

Holden does it, too. From their point of view, it kinda makes sense. People want everything at their fingertips, but I bet they wont want to pay the $500 or so to include a different steering wheel in a Bluetooth kit.

Will the basic BT kit work with the RCD310? and if so.. does it connect to a non JB iPhone? and if so.. Does it display stuff on MFD &/or radio?

Then there is a good reason I didn't buy a Holden.

Still dont get it. Stick a simple system in and upgrade as necessary. I dont think the Mazda one was too much more then basic

I agree, it would be nice if there was at least a basic system in, esp for 50k car. BMW have bluetooth and USB/Ipod standard and works well with the one line displays.

                Perhaps in the MK7's eh!

The Standard Bluetooth will work with the RCD 310, but it does not display anything on the radio or MFD besides confirming a pairing.

You're not wrong there. The setups Holden use in their VE and Craptiva certaintly aren't the most trouble-free system out there. Hell, I remember repacing the old Parrot/Techaudio VW Bluetooth kits at least once a week.

I think what VW have got with the Nokia setup is a pretty reliable piece of gear. I've not heard of one fail at all. All issues appear to be phone-related. If there's information to suggest otherwise, I'll be happy to acknowledge it.

OK thanks mate. Sounds like it may be a workable solution for me then. Cheers. Don't need all the Bells and whistles - just the ability to legally receive occasional calls.

The icrud is over rated and under performing.

there's no need to use scotch locks and crimp joints! And you get to charge the hourly rate for the install and it's a fantastic car kit.

                            Good points... noted.

I have to say though that I genuinely feel that RSAP is over-rated unless you are Nokia. Also the Skoda kit is easily installable by any competent vehicle accesory fitter. Mine came with a PnP harness, although was made a little more complex because I enabled voice control at the same time. If the car already is setup with that for an RNS 510 it would be simpler.

So can this be put into 'a simple summary' for those who are not "technically indepth" with bluetooth, such as myself.

i.e. Don't get the VW basic kit, but get your dealer to install the Skoda basic kit, especially if you've already optioned the RNS-510, instead?
