Got my R on Wednesday! Pretty much 2 weeks after docking in sydney. So stoked! For once had a good experience with the dealer etc

Delivery April 2012..... well maybe... Heard some disturbing news from a dealer that VW Aust has sent out an email stating no Golf R or Polo production 1st quarter 2012

We dealt with Rob, the sales manager. He was great to deal with. I rate him 12 out of 10. The State Manager is going to get a letter praising him his service was so good.

On top of that we got invited to the Corporate Box for the Titans vs Raiders game tomorrow! And will get a loan of an demo R for a weekend at some point.

Got my GTD yesterday. It's awesome! Sure a pleasure to drive.

What was very funny though, was that I ordered it in Candy White with Black Cloth seats, which they told me would arrive in 8 - 9 weeks.
Two weeks ago, I saw a Red one at the dealership and I got to thinking that I liked the Red one better, so I emailed them to ask what specs the Red one they had in stock had, and they said that that particular one had ACC and SatNav and other stuff I didn't want (as I had only ordered the base model). Ah well, Candy White with Black Cloth it is then I thought...
When I went to pick it up yesterday, I was presented with a shiny new Tornado Red GTD with Tartan seats. My wife and I stared in silence for about 10 seconds before telling the salesman that we have ordered a White one. I think he nearly had a heart attack, haha! He asked if we were joking and said that the paperwork I had signed when were ordered it said Tornado Red. I told him it was definitely Candy White. But then I told him that I had actually been thinking that the Red ones look better and that I would have preferred Tartan seats to the Black Cloth, so I was happy with this one.

When we got home, I checked my paperwork from when I ordered it, and it said Candy White DSG with Black Cloth - so I have absolutely no idea how I ended up with a Tornado Red DSG with Tartan seats in my garage, but I'm as happy as larry!

I took delivery of my new R about 2 weeks ago. Specs are MY11.5 3dr Rising Blue, DSG, MDI, Bluetooth, Sunroof, ACC, RVC. I ordered in mid Dec last year, it was originally going to be here in Apr but that moved out to the right 3 times.

Nevertheless, I am so impressed with the blue beast now it's here, it is phenomenal! We took it the snow last weekend, on the highway it performs like a dream, it is so comfortable and effortless to drive. I even took it down about 10 km of muddy goat-tracks to Yarrangobilly caves, hello 4motion. Of course the new toy got coated in mud, a great excuse to spend an afternoon outside with it and give it a wash. Its got 750km on it now, I can't wait for run in to be complete so I can give it a good workout.

It's worth commenting on ACC as I did order it but had mixed feelings about it during the delivery wait. My conclusion now is ACC transforms the car, the differences between the settings are distinct and really change the car, Comfort or Normal are great for tooling around here in Canberra, Sport makes it much harder and a much more involving driving experience.

Plans for the future include a tune when I convince 'the department of finance and war' I really do need it.....she has driven the R and thinks it has more than enough power already.

The conversation with the department should be in context of the "Tune" fixing the delivery of power and addressing the shortcomings of the factory configuration to comply with economy and emissions issues. So it is your duty as a sensible VW owner to tune the vehicle to its appropriate potential.

Congrats on your R MadWorm. Pity about the delay,but now that you've finally got it,well worth the wait! I too got my R two weeks ago tomorrow. I've just clocked up 960kms,it's such a pleasure to drive! Just got back from a place north of where I live called "Paluma". 10kms of hilly,twisty roads to give the ACC a real workout. Glad I took that option from the factory too. So which tune did you have in mind? I've opted for the Bluefin, will load it up in a few weeks after she's run in a bit more,that is of course if my R doesn't have an encrypted ECU
