Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello everyone, first post here.

Going to order a MY12 Candy White Golf R over the next couple of weeks. Not looking forward to the 6 month wait though.

    Was hoping some people could offer some advice. I'm not sure whether to tick DSG and Dynaudio on the options list or not. Currently the car is in the following spec;

    5dr - White
    19" Black Wheels
    Manual
    Leather
    Sat Nav
    ACC
    Sunroof

I've only ever owned a manual car and love the driver involvement. I test drove the DSG and it was great but the dealer didn't have a manual R or GTI that I could drive to feel the difference, so I have abit of thinking to do! I think i would end up missing the third pedal though.

Also have to decide on the Dynaudio, have not heard it yet but $2000 seems like alot. Will go back to the dealer this weekend and let my ears do some thinking! Will keep you informed.

    • well.. I have the DSG and love it.. but if you are a manual man you would be just as happy.. as for the Dynoaudio I am happy with the base product.. if you are getting the sat nav then the dynoaudio should only be $1000 uplift

Congrats on the decision. You will love it.
Why not tick all the boxes.
I too have only ever driven manual cars and im not missing the clutch one bit. The DSG is a hoot. Makes for a pleasure for 90% of the time (City/built up driving) and its great to use when punting around too (that other 10%).
Each to their own, but I'm loving the DSG

          • Hi all,

bought our new golf through a dealer in Brisbane. The dealer said if we wanted to maintain warranty of the car, we had to get it serviced by them only.....?

            thanks

            • it is wrong, don't be rip off by them, u can choose any VW dealer to do the service.

              • Hi everyone,

I am trying to ask you people about my situation with delivery to see if anyone here has gone through the same thing.
My R was on the Glorious Leader, the same boat as the Langers Sydney's R but I haven't been able to pick my car up nor have I been given a firm date for the delivery from my dealership.

According to the dealership, what's happening now is that my R is actually still sitting at Patrick in Port Kembla waiting for the part to come in.
I was literally shocked when I heard that and the sales manager of the dealership today told me that he confirmed with Patrick that the part they are waiting for is the safety harness as it doesn't comply with ADR.
Obviously, there is nothing I can do but count on his word although it sounds fishy and very suspicious.
He also told me that many cars coming to Australia often need this kind of ADR fix or something.
I always thought that the car should be being built at the VW factory in Germany to conform with ADR. I just can't undertand what is going on.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or heard anything like this??

                • Patricks install child seat anchor points and things like that which are required for australian ADR compliance. I guess it's possible that they've run out of supply of these parts. You could attempt to escalate through VGA and ask them to follow up?

Oh matey, I am so sorry to read that, what an absolute nightmare for you.....

I think defo escalate to VGA. Please feel free to mention that my R was on same boat and has been in my car port for a week now. Weird.....Same car, 5 door R. Sounds very odd.

Let us know how you get on, and good luck

                      Thank you Corey!!

I think I will talk to VGA if I don't hear anything from my dealer until this Friday.
The manager mentioned today that he reckons that it would probably take good 5 working days from today to receive my car.
What kind of details do I have to give VGA to find out about my car? VIN number?

This wait is just killing me really....
I mentioned about your car once and my salesperson said to me that how do you know his car was on the same boat?
It seems that the dealers don't know anything about forum.

Anyway, I am really sick and tired of this and I just want my car ASAP.

VIN number may help, but probably more helpful would be the "COMM Number" - or commission number (which may even be on your contract) and is the number that Volkswagen use to track your car internally. It is from NADCON, the same system that your VIN number came from.

Dealer probably meant from VW only and not from any other generic mechanic!

But if he said from their dealership only- then that's not true. You can get ur car serviced from any VW dealer and ur warranty will still very much be valid. (if in doubt - call VW Australia).

                            Hope that helps!

                            Cheers,

I will check my contract now to see if I can locate COMM number.

I dont know how some of you have and are in the middle of waiting months, 1 week is bad enough!

Ordered: Golf GTI - DSG - 5dr - Tornado Red - BT - MDI - Rear Sensors - Euro Plates

Had the car 3 days now and enjoying every minute of it, such a refined drive and despite what other people have said, I think the DSG performs well in traffic, smoother than I could ever drive my old manual. The paddle shifters make changing gears a breeze if you want to take control, the best of manual and automatic!

Taking it easy for the first 1,500km, then will give sport mode a whirl!

Received: Golf GTI - DSG - 5dr - Tornado Red - BT - MDI - Rear Sensors - Euro Plates
