Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Why do people keep asking about the "new BT" ? Is it different to the MY11 (9ZB) Bluetooth?

Not sure. And that is why the question. As it now comes standard, is it any different from the previous BT (for which they were charging $550)?

Probably i should have asked this question in a BT thread!

As far as I'm aware, it's still just the 9ZB (MY11 bluetooth) option. The inclusion of BT and MDI was simply due to the fact that many other lower cost cars had these features as standard, and the fact that there was a little bit of play due to the Australian $.

As far as I'm concerned, if you haven't tried out the LC, you don't deserve to have a GTI/R, lol. TBH, it's no big deal. It's not a "real" LC of course - you need to determine the ideal RPM yourself (always 3000rpm for a stock golf r, but often much lower for a GTI) and then "vary the throttle" to ensure you get the optimal take off for the grip levels of the surface. It's not like a Ferrari or GTR etc where it's entirely computer controlled. It simply allows you to rev to a certain RPM like a traditional manual would allow... with both the GTI and R, the launch is pretty "soft" too.

Yeh when I optioned BT they didn't mention it was a newer improved version. I was happy with the fact that they fiddled the figures and only put a small $ value on my options list for both MDI and BT. Maybe it was due to me signing near the end of the month or something.

Corey, I deserve, I deserve it!! lol. When local plods stop me I will tell them Corey said I had to do it! lol

                • Is LC only available on DSG models or is it available on Manuals as well?

                  • No... as per what you quoted, it's not a "real" LC and simply allows you to rev to a certain RPM like a traditional manual would allow.

Since a manual is already a manual and you control the clutch pedal yourself - there is no need for the "fake" LC

                    • Corey, doesn't it also adjust the take up point via the solenoids in the mechatronics unit ?

In summation, they know manual drivers have proper car control and don't need electronics to step in.

                        • Um Ideo, if you read, you still need to control the car yourself with LC... it's not an automated launch control system, and the traction controll is OFF...

Seriously, if you think you're a "proper driver", why are you driving an AWD car with an electronic accelerator pedal and triple and double synchros between each cog and numerous electronic safety nannies? Surely you'd be more of a man if you were driving an old Triumph Stagg or something which you REALLY had to have "proper car control" and no electronics to step in

But I guess if you are not too picky about options and colours, there are always a few cars lying around.

                                Well done!
